I'm a big AMG fan and considered a CLS63, but I wanted more of a sports car, hence the 991. But my c63 was a great car and forever cemented love for the AMG brand.
I've done multiple AMG Driving Academy programs over the years and the CLS63 was impressive around the track for BIG touring car, granted it's no 911.
Also, the AMG owning experience was wonderful, their Private Lounge forum reserved for owners is awesome (no other brand has such a thing, that I'm aware of).

I love the CLS63 and the power is insane, especially the new m157 engine and awd.
But take a look at the new M6 gran coupe sedan. I think it's worth considering a test drive, it's a fresher model than the CLS and no joke in performance either.
It's also a bit "rarer" on the road--the CLS63 has been out a while. Plus, I believe you can do PTS (or pick any color from their current lineup) with the BMW, AMG forget it, not happening.

For what it's worth I'd keep the Bentley or 991 any day vs the CLS63, but it's your money and your car Although I do find myself grunting & groaning when I get in and out of my 991 and I'm only 37, so I bet it doesn't get any easier getting in and out as you get older (and heavier)!

My sentiments, exactly! My wife and my son all think I'm crazy and in need of a shrink because I blow so much money on depreciation by not keeping cars long enough but in reality, the only two cars I kept for only a year were my R8 Spyder and my 911, both sports cars. I've come to the conclusion that sports cars are to be admired but not for me to own and drive as I'm just not comfortable in them @ 6'1" and 265# and 67 years old. At least with my old sports cars I get to use their available performance as they don't come anywhere near today's modern machines, and I don't expect them to be plush and comfortable, so collectible sports cars for occasional driving and club use are realistically all the sports cars I should own.

So, thanks to all for your encouragement. My wife & my son will just have to work on their own attitudes and not keep trying to control mine.

I've done some configurations online with the M6 Gran Coupe but didn't fall in love. I guess I owe it to myself to go see one in person, though.

[QUOTE=BlackSpeed;4144571]It's also a bit "rarer" on the road--the CLS63 has been out a while. [QUOTE]
Ever since I first saw the first CLS in 2004 I have loved the car's lines, even though half the people I talk to hate the car's looks, so the fact that it still turns my head shows it's an itch I can only scratch by finally owning one. M6s don't usually cause me to give them a second look, though perhaps the Gran Coupe might.

[QUOTE=BlackSpeed;4144571]Plus, I believe you can do PTS (or pick any color from their current lineup) with the BMW, AMG forget it, not happening.[QUOTE] Matte silver paint has also been something I've had a hard on for since I first saw it and since it is a relatively inexpensive option on the CLS63, I don't need to go the route of PTS. I know what I want and I can get it from the factory with no appreciable delays or concerns.

[QUOTE=BlackSpeed;4144571]For what it's worth I'd keep the Bentley or 991 any day vs the CLS63, but it's your money and your car [QUOTE] After 6 years of driving 3 Bentley GTCs, I'm ready for a change.

Add 30 years and 50 pounds (or more) and then try hauling your *** out of your 911 and you'll be walking in my shoes. It ain't easy and it ain't gonna get easier.

Definitely take a look and drive one--I drove an M6 coupe when I was shopping last and it was a rocket ship on the highway, wow the power and pull was intense--the DCT is pretty damn awesome too (very similar to PDK in delivery). It (the trans) kills anything offered by AMG IMO

I can't imagine, but I applaud your determination--God willing, I hope to be in your shoes one day!! (minus a few pounds, haha)

The AMG also have good handling. I love my E63, more comfortable and feel quicker than 911S. In twisty, not bad at all too.
But I also want a 991TTs as a third car.
A normal 991 feels slow after you own the AMG

Is this a "feeler" thread for your 911?

I'd take a hard look at the new S 63 coupe. It is the latest tech in an amazing body. Is it a lot more expensive than the CLS?

Hunh... I find it odd that a 991 isn't a good car for driving in straight line?

Funny, but just yesterday I was thinking to myself how comfortable the car was on a 150 freeway trip. PDK, 7th gear PSE off.. ALMOST too UN-SPORTS CAR Like.. But my thoughts were how it doubles as a sportscar and comfortable luxury car.

I'll never feel the need to track a car, use mine as DD (on straight roads) and only on occasionally will go find a nice windy road.

But I'll never feel the need to stop driving a 911 of some sort. I simply enjoy the car and desire to integrate it into my daily life... because I love what it is all about..

I realize the OP's point wasn't to debate if dumping 911 was the right thing to do.. But hey, he posted in a 991 forum.. so I suppose I can express my opinions as well.

But I've come to realize that there really are different folks around here. There are those with Porsche in their blood and can't imagine life without the sound of a Boxer engine in their daily life. Me, if I won the lottery I'd simply buy another (more expensive) Porsche.. I suppose I most identify, automobile wise, with these types of people.. Those that have it in their blood..

And there are those who just find it to be another car.. Always willing to jump to something else that has a few more horsepower, better electronics, something that fits their garage better or whatever it is that strikes their fancy. To each his own but not really the kind of Porsche enthusiast I have much in common with, regardless of how many they have owned and how much they know...

And to those, good luck with your Benz or BMW or other boring car.. won't miss you much.. .. yawn...

SanibelSpeed, your logic makes total sense. AMG engines are awesome and Mercedes service is far better than Porsche.
The only thing I caution you about on the AMG is the MCT transmission. Its bulletproof, but it shifts shamlessly slow on downshifts and can be jerky, when slowing to a stop and when taking off, from a stop.
Its a huge step backwards, compared to a Porsche PDK.
You might want to endure your Bently until AMG releases a proper Dual Clutch Transmission, which they should be doing by the next CLS refresh.
Alternately, if you can live with just 500HP (after ECU tune) get the CLS 550, with the smoother non-MCT trans.
Also, with AMG lease, because the depreciation is worse than the lease residual.

I couldn't agree more with this post!

AMG transmissions are their Achilles heal, the DCT M cars are very close to PDK. PDK is by far the best trans in the business for the money IMO.
Ferrari F1 is glorious too, but I couldn't tell any difference in WOT shifts vs my PDK in Sport+ (I haven't driven a 458, just F430)

I am a past AMG and sure to be future AMG owner again, so I say go for it. While not the largest fan of MB on its own, AMG is an entirely different story. It is a muscle car with the ability to handle fairly well. And the low end grunt is just awesome! My Wife and I still both miss our AMG's and she is determined to get another one once the 15's come out. I assume you will be waiting for the new CLS coming out in 15 as well? Whatever you do, enjoy it. You can always go back to a P-Car later again if you decide or add one back to the "fleet".

I've moved on, also

I recently traded in my "13" CLS 550 for a Nissan Leaf. My CLS was a daily driver and like you 500+ horsepower (chipped) in Atlanta traffic was useless. The CLS was a very comfortable cruiser, however it was one the sloppiest car that I have owned. There was a half second lag for the supercharger to kick in and absolutely no traction control of the back end. It would constantly spin and kick out even with moderate acceleration. However, in pure straight line conditions it was extremely fast for a large car.

My Bentley Continental GTC convertible is far nicer and faster so it would be a real step down to get one of those. They're pretty and they do make a good sound but aren't worth the money, IMO.
