Move from 987.2 to a base 991.........would I be happy?
I would hold onto what you have.
If this was your first Porsche and you wanted to get your feet wet getting into a 991 base then I would be all for it however, you probably own the best handling/platform Porsche makes straight out the box. I LOVED my mid engine rides when I had it. Even when I stepped up to the 997 C2S, I was looked back and thought my midengine counterparts were so much more fun and enjoyable to drive.

I test drove a few 981 CS's before pulling the trigger on the 991 C2 and though I felt the Cayman handled better, I just couldn't get past how beautiful and stunning the the 991 looks from all angles. It's been my dream to one day own a 911, that being said, I don't mind giving up a little in the handling dept to live the dream. 991 all the way, no regrets.
Slightly off topic, the perception that the cayman is somehow the "poor mans porsche" and thus inferior, is only held by people who have some inkling of the price differential because they have shopped them. To everyone else, a Porsche is a Porsche.
The real reason the cayman is obviously an inferior vehicle to the 911 is clearly the lack of back seats in which to put your young children or Richard Hammond.

The engines though are **** poor IMO.
