avant garde M510
avant garde M510
Hi i'm looking at replacing my sport design wheels w avant garde M510's or Ruger Mesh(still undecided). I like the simplicity of the M510's and look easier to clean as well as shows off the red brake calipers on my C2S. Looking to get them in a custom machine finish w gray in the background similar to Carrera Classic finish. Anyone have any pics of these on a black 991? or knowledge of the wheels. The prices seem very reasonable compared to a forged wheel which i dont think i need. Any comments appreciated. thx
My experience with the Chinese / Taiwan wheels is that while they look nice, they don't run-out or balance-up well, there are heavy spots in the wheels. I admit the price is tempting, but be prepared to have a your tire installer tell you he was unable to get a proper balance on them. That's just been my experience with them - not saying it will happen with every set. I run HRE's on my car - they cost more, but they are made right.
Avant Garde wheels are low pressure cast made in Taiwan. In my opinion, they are not nearly as good as what comes OEM from Porsche (which are TUV-Approved and made by BBS). You can read through this thread on one person's experience with them if you like:

You have a pretty nice car in a 991, its not like its a 20 year old Nissan Z-car. I'd recommend putting a top tier wheel on it, or stay with stock OEM. I have to admit I went down that same path a few years ago, buying a set of Ace wheels (http://www.acealloywheel.com) for my Aston Martin for $ 1,400 a set. Great price and they looked good, but my tire installer struggled quite a bit to get them balanced and basically told me they were crap and impossible to do correctly. Here's what they looked like, and the were OK on the road, but I could feel the imbalance at speed.

After 6 months I sold them off an replaced them with HRE P40's and the difference was very noticeable in both ride and I swear the car handled a bit better as well

And I have a set of HRE's on my 991S now as well. They're not inexpensive, but they made a darn nice wheel.
