I leased 991 cabriolet back in January for what I thought was a great deal.

I only have about 1500 miles on it because I just don't have much time to drive it. The car had a msrp of 110k. Its dark gray with pdk, 20' wheels, heated/ventilated seats and a few other options.

Are there any dealers out there that might me interested in buying out my lease. The buyout is about 94.5k now.

I did some research and that seems to be a very good price for a 14 cab with such low milage.

The car sounds like a good car. I am assuming a C2. Have you tried putting on swap a lease or lease trader? You may be able to give an incentive for someone to take over the payment or even here in the classifieds. I do not see a dealer paying 94k for this car. Even though it has only 1700 miles it, it is a preowned car now. The dealer only paid slightly more for a brand new version of the car they sold you.

First, to be completely frank with you -- a 2014 anything with 1,500 on it isn't a huge selling point to many people, especially on a car that many of us barely put 5k miles on in a year! Plus I can still find 14's brand new with like 5 miles on them...! Now, a 2012 sure, but you won't get any bumps in $$ on a '14 if you are trying to have someone buy-out the lease. It may make a diff if someone ASSUMES your lease, but doubtful on a buy-out.

Why don't you ask the dealer where you got the car from to start? I've found over the years buying, leasing, selling high-end cars of all types that many times the dealers will work with you. Leases are a bit more tricky than title-in-hand or even financed deals for sure, but where there is a will there is a way! The other thing is why you are trying to get out of the lease. If it is just simply because you don't want the car anymore, be prepared to take a huge $$ hit to dump-and-run. But if you are just looking to replace with something more economical your dealer is much much easier to work with if they are putting you into another car (Macan maybe?) from inventory.

Also, have you looked-into lease swapping / clearing services? Like Swap-a-Lease? They can help in some cases.... I just looked, and that particular site has like 50 911's listed though... (http://www.swapalease.com/lease/Porsche/911/search.aspx).

My lease payments are quite low at 1190 per month so I can probably swapalease it fairly quickly, but I don't want to because pfs does not let the original lease holder out of the obligation. The original lease holder becomes in essence a cosigner for the new lease owner.

I checked most of the offerings in my area and one will be hard pressed to get more than a 7-8% discount off msrp even for a 14. With 1500 miles, my buyout is almost 15% off msrp.

Anyway, I'll try carmax in a few weeks and if they don't want it I'm fine with keeping it.

 

Good attitude. Carmax sounds like a good option. The PFS lease clause holding the original owner seems like a pain in the ***.

 

I am in a similar situation with my 2014 991 C2... But it seems the Bay Area market is pretty decent on prices so selling it might work out (especially since mine is a rare 7 speed manual). You can do a third party lease buyout through your local Porsche dealer if you find a buyer. There is a small documentation charge but it is very convenient since they are basically selling it for Porsche and you are off the hook once sold.

What about just private selling it? Just because it's a lease doesn't mean you can private sell it. More hassle but might be the best financially. Unless the dealer is making money (i.e., you were buying another car from them) I doubt you'll get a good deal with them.

 

When I sold my 08 Cabrio, I put a bunch of listings online and all I got was people interested in looking at it and driving it. I ended up selling it to a Porsche dealer that saw my listing on craigslist. Í guess I'll do the same with this car, but I just wish there was a way to filter out real buyers from the posers.
