Tail pipes

Not an exciting thread, but is it just me that thinks quad tail pipes on a flat six shouts something very wrong with the engineering principles?

Don't know, to me it's more about the total capacity of the pipes rather than the number. Would you prefer two 4" pipes on each side?

Not a gripe, just find it strange, logic and airflow would suggest that 6 cylinders does not equally spread into 4 outlets(well not easily). I am fairly sure the quad tailpipes are faking it and are really just dual?
I guess I am surprised non flat six'ers don't question it more. Just something that has been bugging me , but not to any great degree

Take a look at the exhaust piping. When at low RPMs (with either the PSE or stock 3.8 exhaust), only 1 of the exhaust outlets per side is active.

When the valve opens, it switches much of the airflow to the formerly closed outlet.

And there is a merge in the middle anyway (center muffler).

Doesn't the piping, which starts from the headers, essentially turn into two single tubes after the cats? In that case, it wouldn't really matter at all.
