Both sides have spoken.
The flogging has come to pass and the proverbial horse is dead.
Long live the horse...

You are right, I should have asked how much the oil change would be. Sigh . . .

Honda recalled as many cars as GM did last year.

I understand that many wise and discriminating 911 owners also go to Walmart when their cars need replacement batteries.

Wow, quite a bit of emotion here. I don't know what the original intention of the post was but going by Hot Honda's contribution here I am hoping it was just informational with maybe a bit of frustration mixed in. But we are an emotional, reactive group here, although very supportive.

I don't love $250 oil changes either and I can do them myself if I have to but I did come into this brand many years ago knowing service would be a premium just like it is on other premium performance cars of this type.

I don't begrudge the dealers what they have to charge most of the time it's their $$'s sit out on the lot while the rest of choose between which model and I'm sure to stay at Porsche standards is no cheap feat. I have had some great dealer experiences and have made some good friends. But there are also indy's to do the work at a lower rate than dealers to choose from out there.

I love these cars and will continue to drive them as long as I'm blessed with the means to afford them. Probably said more than enough here. Hot Honda I hope you love the new NSX. Having great cars out there to choose from is what this is all about.

Acura/Honda is paring out info on their new NSX in small bits & pieces. Recent word is $150K starting & optioned up at $170-180K. Even a possible type R @ $200K. Puts them up in rarified air w/solid competitors.

The typical Acura/Honda buyer is shopping a monthly payment on a $40K car. Even the most expensive Acura, the RLX SH-AWD, peaks in the $60's & they can't give them away. Acura is fortunate they have the MDX & RDX SUVs.

Buyers will come from where? Starters, people like me who have previous history w/the NSX - sure/maybe, but a small number & the price will hurt. Defectors from other brands is their hope or new buyers. I predict history will repeat itself - strong demand early, but after that, a tough sell regardless of how good the car is.

My 1st NSX was a new 1994 & I bought it for two reasons...great car + great deal. I continued buying for the same reasons. Dealer experience was always great too.

I agree in all respects, and can think of only 2 ways that it makes sense from a business perspective to price the car that high:
1. It's a low volume halo-car. This is what Ford is doing with the GT. (Reports are that it will price in Aventador territory with 250 made per year).
2. Overseas (in Japan and maybe China?) there is a cult following that would actually rather own this car for $175k than any of the AMG GT, 911TT, McLaren P13, etc etc.

Again, my reservations about the reliability aside, I think it's an awesome car, but Koenigsegg summed it up perfectly when Top Gear recently asked him why he doesn't build a 911-fighter: That area of the market is a hornet's nest.
