991 Key Porsche Crest Removal
991 Key Porsche Crest Removal
Has anyone removed the small Porsche crest on the car key? If anyone can provide some guidance to remove it without tearing up the key, I would appreciate it.
I want to replace the gold key crest with a silver one.
Thank you for any help.

I have not taken the key crest off, but I have taken apart the fob. It is a long process and you need to be careful. First remove the blades from either side of the key with a trim remover. Then you need to carefully (and I mean carefully) remove the silver portion. It is plastic and delicate, so it can break. Use a trim remover to get under the silver trim in the back part of the fob and carefully pry up. Once you get the back part of the trim up and away from the fob, use the trim remover to pry up the piece evenly on either side. Once you get to the front of the fob, be careful as that piece is clipped in. Carefully un-clip it. Like I said, the silver trim is plastic and delicate, to be very careful when removing it as it can break. Once you remove the silver trim, you will see that the crest is glued on to the fob. Could even be screwed in - I don't know as I never tried to remove it. Hope this helps and good luck.
I have taken the key crest. Why are you taking it off?
I don't think you can pry it off with a screwdriver without ruining the finish. The crest is glued to the housing. It's almost as if it's "welded" onto the plastic.
You could drill a small hole and push it off. No one will ever see the hole since the crest will cover it.
If you haven't seen my supplemental FOB write up, do a search. And if you buy from EBay, expect the crest to be incorrect.

Okay. I just read your post again.
Knowing what I know (and trust me I am ****), I would drill a hole from the inside of the housing. Using a blunt tool, push the crest off. Obviously make the smallest possible hole. I'll install the silver crest and plug the hole from the inside. This should minimize you chewing up the perimeter where the crest sits.
I guess you can try prying it off with a plastic tool. I tried that before but the sucker wouldn't budge so I resorted to drilling.
Your key, your choice.

If it can be done, I will try it, but if it looks too hard or like it is too risky...I'll pass.
Another option is just placing a silver one over the existing one, since the stock one is flush with the fob case plastic. Outside of protruding a little from the plastic of the case, you wouldn't know there was another crest under it.
Thanks again.
