First Porsche - What to Expect?

Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum and have been looking at low mileage used 991 S cars. I've been lusting after a porsche since riding in my uncle's car when I was about 8-10 years old.

I've covered what insurance costs will be (asinine until a major violation falls off in about 4 years) and I'm googling all over trying to find a servocee schedule with rough costs. It looks like about $1,000 every year for regular service, is that fair? When do the big services happen (timing belt, clutch, etc.) generally?

Any bit of info on this helps, it's proven to be difficult for me to find. I'm in a financial position to buy the car and pay to run it, but I'm never in a position to jump into something blindly, I prefer to be informed.

Thanks,

John

Welcome to the insanity John. Service all depends on your driving and miles. If you drive aggressively then you can figure an additional $2k for tires, you can get them from tire rack and decent prices but with balance and disposals, just figure 2. Oil change atleast yearly, 250-500. If you log lots of miles, then that number can go up. Learn how to change it yourself and save money. Get a PDK and no clutch change out. Down load the Porsche app and learn a bunch. Good luck

Let me put it my way. Did you ever hear what letters in 'Boat' stands for well here it is and it applies to a Porsche as well.

Forget the PDK and get a manual! If you know how (or learn how) to drive properly, a clutch can last you 100K or more. Even so, it should cost you no more than $3K to get it replaced when the time comes. Any decent Porsche shop can do it - you don't need a dealer.

Oil changes on these cars are super simple, and what you spend in tools (if you don't have any) to do, you'll make up in savings the first time.

As mentioned, tires will be your big expense. Rears go nearly twice as fast as fronts, and natch they're the most expensive.

These cars don't have timing belts, they have chains. They'll basically last the life of the engine.

Go ahead and budget $1-2K a year for repairs, bank what you don't spend because as these cars get older, the repairs will get more frequent and they will be very expensive.
