Don't and will never understand the Porsche tax. You can get a full billet replacement for any BMW M car for $150. Now while there are economies of scale on BMW's, this is crazy. However, what this manufacturer is successfully doing is "weeding it's own garden" by creating exclusivity for only wealthy individuals to entertain this mod. While I'm not a member of the 1%, I am a member of the 2 - 5%, and we are smart with our money. Bravo.

Not saying it is this way with this company however food for thought.

I was talking to a buddy that did CF parts for the BMW community. I was asking him why these things are so much? For what it is worth this is what he told me. Big cost outlay to set-up, design, produce and test fit. Once the product is actually produced it is VERY cheap. Companies then need to decide how quickly they want to get that cost back once they start selling the item. It is the old phrase "make fast nickels or a slow buck". Thye have already paid the money to produce the item.

Now the decision is do you want to sell very few at a high retail to make that money back or sell a whole bunch and make it after selling a bunch.

With regards to this actual item, looking at all the interest I bet they could sell hundreds if not thousands of these sets at a respectable price ($200 range) or they are going to sell just a couple at $695. Again don't know how it works for them in particular but for my buddy he already paid the up front cost, he wants to then move as much as he can not price out of the market.

Oh, totally understand. Fabrication companies do a large outlay of cash to get the mold done, and depending on number of units produced, the mold will go bad and they'll need to drop $$ for another one. I'm sure MA Carbon has factored this all into their revenue model. I just have a hard time stomaching $700 for a pair of carbon fiber sticks that are held on by double sided tape-- there are entire diffusers or front lips that are priced similarly for other make/models.

Perhaps the truth is... I am not their target audience for this product and should keep my mouth shut? OP good luck.
