Porsche 911 R
Hello all.
Anyone have news about this model? Rumour or true model? Will it be limited production? Manual gearbox only? Best regards. |

Manual gearbox and said to be limited to 600 cars. The 918 owners will likely have first dibs on these cars, similar to the GT3 RS. Here is the road and track article. http://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars...1-r-is-coming/ |
This is exciting for sure. I hadn't heard of it but now have plenty of reading material for flying.

I heard only 25 coming to the US and good luck getting one. First 5 are going to famous folks like Leno, Seinfeld etc. Rumor that even if you are a 918 owner, good luck. Most will be headed to collector and museum's. Unfortunate really that I bet none end up on the track.

It would be a great car if it was $10k less than a GT3 because it doesn't have a pdk or wide body but instead it will probably be more because Porsche is going to make so few. If you want a manual, you don't care about ultimate performance so just get a gts with 45 less hp.

I tried back in October to get on the order list for the 911R at six different dealerships. Didn't happen, I'm on a list but there are zero cars for allocation. Porsche offered the car to 918 owners and they bought up the entire run.
I really hate how Porsche's most desirable cars are limited runs, which prevents nearly all of their customers from purchasing them. |
It does feel odd that the only people who can buy limited edition sports cars are people who already own limited edition sports cars. Surely these are the people who need limited edition sports cars least?! Inequality in action my friends...
|
Porsche is free to do as they please. But it certainly rubs people the wrong way no doubt, and yes -- entire lot is already sold as stated. This car will be way way way harder to get than the RS.
|
Most of those with the secret handshake will try to resell them for a premium. The R is cool but not markup cool IMO.
|
THIS WILL BE THE PERFECT enthusiast 911
|
Hopefully it whets purists appetites for a manual GTS and gives lift to their resale. I do love this car and if it turned out to be a great investment as well, I'd be a complete man.

This might inspire someone to copy this when doing a rebuild.
