Can I replace or simply remove the front spoiler?

Hey
I have a 2012 991 with SPASM

Due to sharp declines on the streets, the thing sometimes hits the ground.

Its taken a hard beating, and at times almost falls off and drags on the ground.

I have two questions

1.) Can I just take the thing off and drive without it? I always felt it kinda made the car look longer than I liked.

2.) Is there a place to order a replacement part? I see one on suncoast but can I pick up some chinese knock off or something? I have no desire to spend much on this piece of plastic.

Thanks

Quick answer is Yes, it is easily replaced, and Yes, you could drive without it -- but that seems silly considering it is a sub-$200 part protecting a painted part costing much more than that!

There are a lot of posts about this piece, so you could search this forum and get a lot of helpful information from others. Some members even buy several and keep them handy. But replacing one just because it gets scratched is wasting money -- it is designed to get scratched! Many members elect to just wait and let it get scuffed until they really need to replace it.

Oh, and Suncoast is just about the best place to order a new one. Don't think I've ever seen that particular OE piece offered by knock-off'ers. Probably wrong tho....

Replace. It's there to snap off and protect the rest of your front-end.

I like the SPASM since it's unpainted plastic parts and protecting painted bumper.
I had regular lips and replaced to SPASM for this reason. It's simple swap, so I recommend getting an replacement like plenum and dux said.

Suncoast has 2 OEM versions. The larger and longer SPASM version and the smaller PASM version.

They have both pictured. Order the smaller one if you like the more conservative look.

I am not quite sure what people mean when they say its protects.
Because, if you hit something high enough to hit the front end, it will hit the front end

I always thought it was a replaceable part that had more of an aerodynamic purpose.

If you hit/scrape along something that's at the right angle, the lip protects the actual painted front bumper because it acts as a layer of protection between the tarmac and the bumper.

If you remove the lip and drive without it, (a) you're increasing the likelihood of scraping the bumper itself, and (b) the front end will look a bit awkward (especially if you have a light-colored car).
