Could a 991.2 be Tuned to Feel like a 997 Turbo?
Could a 991.2 be Tuned to Feel like a 997 Turbo?
God
I love the looks of 911 Carreras
I dont like the looks/sound/lag of turbos.
But I just love the power.
Its my dream to have the body of a carrera (no spoiler, no side air intake things) but the power of a true turbo.
Could it ever be possible?
What about getting a 991.2 GTS and then tuning it? When does that bastard come out?
I guess the GTS is kind of an already tuned factory porsche. So maybe its not possible to tune the GTS much?
But since it will be a TURBO (991.2) perhaps it will be?

Considering a 997.1 turbo has 473 hp and 457 torque, while the 991.2 "s" has 420 hp and 368 torque, I suppose with a tune and high flow exhaust you'd be around the stock 997.1 turbo numbers. Depending on if you need/want the extra options of the upcoming GTS, the regular S may be better option to tune (unless the powerkit offers more than tuning to make the extra hp/tq). If the powerkit includes upgraded internals, I would go with that platform.
A 991.2 Carrera S is already close to a 997 Turbo. Down on torque a bit but that 420bhp figure for these cars is pure crap. They are making in excess of 450bhp, probably near 460 to be putting up the 120+mph trap speeds everyone is getting. The torque is no doubt held low to better mimic the feel of a naturally aspirated engine that pulls hard to redline. They could certainly tune the car to give 100 ft-lbs more torque down low but they don't want it to have that feeling of falling off the power curve as the revs climb. Tuners probably won't be so careful to preserve this characteristic and will unleash all the torque engines can make. Once tuned, I think they will be right on top of or slightly exceed 997 Turbo performance. The new engines really are monster performers.
I agree. I had a 997.2 TT (pdk). Put 60k miles on it over 6+ years. A great car. But wanted the targa in its current 991 form. Tried the 991.1S, wanting to love it, very nice car, but not close to my TT. Couldn't pull the trigger. Test drive the 991.2S, amazingly close to my TT, traded it in and have a 991.2S Targa on order.

I had the AWE exhaust, which coincidentally I'll be selling. Great exhaust, awesome sound without being obnoxious, no drone, no CELs, weight and performance improvement. If anyone's interested, PM me.
