Stuck engine cover

My 991 engine cover switch engages but the cover won't open. Anyone know how to open the engine cover manually?
Thanks

Thanks. I found the safety wire cable but tugging on it had no effect. I suspect that the other end of the cable is defective so it looks like a dealer visit for me.

The cable has probably slipped off the latch..that can happen during an oil change.

happened to me once...the dealer had to take off the back engine cover...there is a new sliding retaining bar on the replacement engine latch which firmly holds the cable. The old latch has a flimsy plastic retaining clip.
