991.2 Factory Power Kit has arrived

At least in Germany.
Headline figure is 30 bhp. No word on torque yet. So since we know that regular Carrera Ss are really producing around 465-470bhp, will a Power Kit car (and the inevitable GTS that will come with it standard) be a 500bhp car? Bear in mind that C4Ss have already been clocked at 3.1s 0-60. A Power Kit equipped C4S will probably break into the 2s! I tested a C2S and declared it so fast as to render the Turbo pointless. This should be enough to convince anyone they don't need a Turbo.

991.2 Carrera S's are producing 465 hp? Where did you hear this? I mean that's a 45 hp bump over advertised numbers. I have a hard time believing the delta would be that high...

Drive a C4S and a Turbo S back to back and you wouldn't say that. Plus, I think you are being quite very generous with the 'overstating' of BHP estimates. Don't get me wrong, the upcoming GTS will be pretty sweet, but given the choice of that vs. a Turbo S. Please.

Um, just look at the trap speeds these things are turning in. 121+mph at full weight (3500ish with a driver) tells you the story. Go to any online calculator that estimates horsepower from weight and trap speed. There is certainly some variance but the cars are producing well over the advertised figures. As to the Turbo, I have driven it and I still feel that the new Carrera 4S makes it completely pointless.

Just rechecked some calculators to make sure I am not nuts. Figures of 450 on the low end up to 500 on the high end for the Carrera S. No disputing that you need in excess of 400 to the wheels to get a car that heavy to trap that high. Yep, 991.2 Carrera Ss are 475bhp cars.

Not saying I agree or disagree with you, but I think Total911 covered this exact comparison in issue 137. Nice read.

I guess I haven't seen the calculators but I'd have to think the torque curve factors in- it's a big torque change (369 lb-ft? over a broad rev range). If I remember that torque number right, that's a pretty big jump too.
Some other things go into this: PDK vs. manual, exact weight, etc.
I'm just surprised that Porsche would understate it that much.

My estimates are quite conservative actually in order to bolster my argument. The only way a Carrera 2S is 3500lbs with driver is if the driver is definitely not your average American Porsche owner. More in the 3600 ballpark with how fat Americans are.
