Durability behind rear wheels

I am new to these cars and just picked up a new 2017 Carrera S. I was noticing today that both rear turbos and some small tubes etc are completely exposed behind the rear wheels. This worries me a bit because we live in the suburbs where they are expanding like crazy with construction. There are constantly quarter size or buggier rocks etc in the road and sometimes they are just unavoidable. Seems like one good hit and you would be done.

I was was just curious how many of you drive yours every day and how the durability has been in that area. I plan on driving the car 3-4 times a week to the office and don’t want to constantly worry about it. I planned on driving the heck of it but it is crazy how the back part of the tire is constantly spraying the turbos with road grit. Thanks.

It’s been my experience that these cars are over-engineered and extremely durable, and I’ve never heard of an instance where road debris damaged an engine component on a 911. However, anything is possible...especially if one drives at high speed over a gravel surfaced road. Frankly, your question is one I would ask a competent service technician, but I really think you have nothing to worry about.

I agree, 3rd 911
Current 2013 4S, no issues.

What rocks are you talking about? The soil there is dense clay with not many rocks to speak of. I was born and raised there. Plus was there last month. Didn't notice any rocks in the south Charlotte burbs and I was all over the place every day. In fact, growing up in NC, the only place I every saw much in the way of rocks on the roads were always in the mountains, and usually around tight curves where they tend to collect. Nonetheless construction sites are always going to have issues, like nails! Just have to maneuver carefully. I wouldn't worry about anything hitting anywhere you can't see from the outside. The car will take it. Now living in San Antonio, one has to be concerned with rocks, especially flying ones. I've had to replace 2 windshields thus far.

Shouldn’t have a problem. Have done extensive driving across the country twice on highways, side-roads, and incorporated unpaved roads. As long as you are not aiming for boulders and pot holes, you should be fine.

Drive mine daily, 25 miles to work.. mostly surface streets which are ok, but as is the case with most cities not always the best pavement. Have really had no issues with durability.. Can't say I have had problems with gravel, but it isn't like I drive gravel roads.

The one issue I've had three times is getting a small piece of gravel stuck in the front brake caliper. My parking lot at work is paved but kind of worn and there are small pea gravel like debris. And it sets off a just awful scraping noise. First time it happened I freaked out, but found on-line that the easiest solution is simply back. This has worked like a charm each time this happened.

Other than that no issues.
