I was inspecting my car today and spotted what looks like rust on the left (driver's side) end of tube of what I think is for coolant. See the attached photo. The tube is plated for longevity, but near the attach point on the left, it did not prevent the rust at all. Should I be concerned about this?
When I look at the picture it looks like that tube is two pieces at the end. It has a fitting that is brazed onto the tube and that more precise fitting slides into the water pump housing. Probably an o-ring sealed joint. I think you are seeing the braze from the manufacturing processes or the flux that cleans the parts for a solid braze. If you look at the right hand side of that tube near the rubber hose you can see a similar color where the bracket is brazed to the tube. Looks like braze to me so I think you are fine.
Zoiks,
I went to look at it much closer. The left end does have the flange brazed on. I took some steel wool and removed the crusty surface, leaving a shiny bronze underneath. Thank you for the help.
Glad I could help. The underside of you car looks very clean. Hit it with some high temp clear lacquer and it will keep it all looking great.
