997.2 TS to 992 Carrera T?
Hey fellow Porscheaphiles. I am in a conundrum on my 911 situation and would like some guidance from enthusiasts that have owned several different 911's. I have a 2011 Turbo S with lots of mods and makes about 650whp. Love this car but I've had it for a while and my eye is wandering. It is not my primary daily driver, but I do put miles on it (about 3k/yr) around town, commuting, car shows, etc. I also take it to the track occasionally for 1/4 mile, 1/2 mile, and I also did an HPDE day. I am not as interested in sheer HP and speed as much as I used to be and I am becoming more interested in HPDE track days. I would like to try the RWD manual transmission version of the 911 in a flavor that is more track friendly (lighter weight, iron rotors). I'd also like a newer car. Building a Carrera T, taking European delivery, then bringing it back to the US and modifying it suit my tastes is something that appeals to me. I would try to blend elements of the sport-classic and GT3 to make something fast, fun, and unique.
What are your thoughts?

Mr dw,
I am in the same conundrum my friend. Tastefully modded 997 Turbo Tip PCCB car that makes 610/600ftlbs to the wheels etc. and the speed is nice, but I too am getting older and also put in for a Carrera T allocation last month in hopes of having the more visceral driving experience. Here is my Porsche code that continually has been updated but close to what I want. http://www.porsche-code.com/PPCNPRD6
That being stated, I have set a limit on this car at $130k because after that, the value proposition tends to go away in my opinion.
I have also spec'd out a Carrera S manual with Aerokit for only a couple grand more.
I just spec'd out a GTS for about $15k more.
That has been my dilemma, not so much if the newer car will be enough, but more of which one? I am really warming up to the GTS if I can swing $146k.
My biggest fear would be to settle on the T and be disappointed after selling the 997 because of the power difference.
Of course M Engineering has tunes for these to get them all moving, which would definitely be in the cards for all 3. Having a manual car that eclipses ours in straight-line performance and track also has merit (with a tune of course). Of course, the 997 will always have the smaller feel and charm it has though.
