Ruby Star Turbo S on HRE 517 FMR – Clean, Timeless, Dialed by Wheels Boutique

This week at Wheels Boutique, we’re taking a closer look at a build that explores the limits of the Porsche 992.1 Turbo S—pushing its presence and character a step further while keeping the overall execution clean, balanced, and true to what makes the platform work so well.

Finished in Ruby Star, this Turbo S immediately stands out. It’s a color that carries a lot of energy, but the goal here wasn’t just to be loud—it was to balance that boldness with something more refined and intentional. That’s where the HRE 517 FMR comes into play, finished in Frozen Polished Dark Clear.

What makes the 517 FMR particularly interesting is its origin. It was originally developed with vintage Porsche restomod builds in mind—designed to deliver a period-correct look while incorporating modern engineering and high-performance barrel technology. It’s a wheel that blends heritage with innovation, and that balance ends up working extremely well on a modern platform like the 992.1 Turbo S.

Even though the Turbo S is very much a modern performance machine, the subtle vintage influence from the wheel design adds a layer of depth to the overall look. It ties the car back to Porsche’s design roots without taking away from its aggressive, contemporary presence. The result feels natural—nothing overdone, just properly executed.

From a visual standpoint, the 517 FMR complements the widebody proportions of the Turbo S perfectly. The sizing fills the arches the way it should, giving the car a more planted and confident stance. The Frozen Polished Dark Clear finish adds contrast against the Ruby Star paint, shifting tones depending on the light and giving the setup a more dynamic feel in person.

Performance-wise, the setup is just as dialed. The car is running Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tires, which continue to be a go-to for this platform thanks to their balance of grip and everyday usability. Paired with H&R springs, the ride height is brought down just enough to tighten up both the look and handling without compromising comfort.

Full Specs:
  • Wheels: HRE 517 FMR
  • Finish: Frozen Polished Dark Clear
  • Sizes: 21x9.5 (front) | 22x12.5 (rear)
  • Tires: Michelin Pilot Sport 4S
  • Tire Sizes: 255/30/21 (front) | 335/25/22 (rear)
  • Suspension: H&R Springs

This is a good example of how the right wheel choice can shift the entire character of a car. It’s not about going over the top—it’s about getting the details right and creating something that feels complete from every angle.Appreciate you taking a closer look at this one—between the Ruby Star finish and the 517 FMR setup, it’s a combination that leans a bit different from the usual Turbo S builds. The goal was to bring in that subtle heritage feel through the wheel design while still keeping the car sharp and modern overall.

Curious to hear your take on the spec—does the 517 FMR work on the 992.1 Turbo S for you, or would you have gone a different direction with it?
