Greetings, Porschephiles! Newb here, just learning my way around. I have lots of moto-lusts, and the Porsche has been one of them since the beginning. Saw a recent-model 911 on the road the other day, and it must have really struck a chord with me, because now I've got it on the brain.

Not real sure of all the nomenclature since I'm not studied-up, but it looks like the 993 is the last go-round of the air-cooled models, terminating production in the late 90's. Hope I'm right, because that's the model I'm really thinking about right now. I'm in my late 40's (which sounds impossible), and getting to where I'm fairly likely to be at an entry point in the next couple of years.

So, here I am, looking around, gonna ask weak questions from time to time, but all in all looking to have a blast.

Greetings and welcome.

You're right, the 993 was the last of the air cooled cars and it came in several flavors - 2wd, awd, turbo, coupe, cab, targa.... They were in production through 1997.

Lots of folks (me included) have the 993 as their favorite Porsche for lots of reasons. I'll never get rid of mine!

If you're looking to learn as much as you can about the different 911 variations over the years, search this site and rennlist.com and you'll learn everything you'll need to know before buying one.

Good luck.

Welcome and what he said^^^^^. I am pretty new to Porsche ownership (bought mine 12-12-07). I have to second the Rennlist.com idea. 6speed is cool and has lots of different marques on it, but Rennlist is an amazing place for Porsche owners. The amount of knowledge over there is crazy (good crazy) be sure to search first, but then feel free to ask and you will get answers to just about everything you want to know both before and after buying your first P-car.

As for being mid 40's and finally getting one blah, blah....... I say educate yourself about what you want based on how you are going to use it, how much you plan to do with it yourself (maintaining and altering it) and how much you can afford. Then enjoy the hunt, find the right one with the right options and miles from the right seller with the right paperwork/history and make the price work. I have wanted a 911 Porsche cab basically since 1983. I'll be 40 this Dec, I just said enough is enough with waiting and waiting. There will NEVER be the perfect time to buy a Porsche,....just do it.
