Single Mass Flywheel

I own a '96 993 C2. This is my first Porsche and I've owned it for approx. 2 years. I have almost 60k miles and it's getting close to needing a new clutch/flywheel.

I'm considering switching from the dual mass flywheel to a single mass flywheel. Can anyone advise me what type of issues and/or problems I may face making this switch?

The good news is since you have a 1996, you have an OBDII ECU, therefore you won't have any stalling issues, like you would on a 1995 with an OBDI ECU. Just make sure you have a clean ISV. The only down side you may or may not experience is some noisy gear lash. You can minimize this possibility by using all new parts when you replace the flywheel; i.e. new bearings, seals, pressure plate, clutch etc. I would highly recommend if you're replacing your flywheel with a single mass one, that you use the RS clutch with it. It is a great upgrade. Enjoy!

It will be easier to stall in 1st, & you will need to shift faster to keep it smooth. The engine will rev a lot better!

I would do it!!

I noticed no downsides with a single mass flywheel. The noisy gear is not noticeable at all with the appropriate muffler >.

The car revs more freely and I have experienced no stalling issues with the smf. I drive the same way with the dmf and smf.

I only hear the noise when I accelerate during RPMs below 3000.

The LWF (light weight flywheel) is a great upgrade with the RS clutch. When you pull out your dual mass flywheel you will see what I mean, it weighs a ton!
