I'm still getting up to speed on the 993 models and options. One thing I've noticed is that some 1997 cars have a digital display in the bottom of the tach face, and some don't. Was that an option on some or all models? If so, what was it called?

 

Hey, I have a 1996 C4S and it has the optional digital read-out at the bottom of the tach, so it's not only 1997 cars. It was an option, but I forgot was it was called.

 

The digital display is part of the optional on-board computer (option M659) for 993s.

 

Yea, as said it's the OBC, all Turbo's have them. Only a few normal 993's got them. It is possible to retrofit a OBC.

 

The On-Board Computer is no biggie against today's technology. Outside temp, bars (turbo only), speed, etc. Very basic stuff.

If you get a 993TT, it's stock. If a non-turbo 993, it's optional. You've got a great eye for detail, but the OBC is basically an occasionally helpful wallflower IMHO
