993 4s

Hi All,
After months of gathering information and reading countless stories about cars of all types, Im happy to finally be part of the 6speedonline family. I've owned a 67' Camaro and spent some time in a C5 Zo6 and a 996. All very different and special in their own way. But Im most interested in the 993 because of its timeless design and performance. I have not yet driven one but hopefully I'll have a chance in the near future and see how wonderful this car really is. To be more specific, my heart is set on getting a 993 4s for its widebody design and turbo upgrades minus the turbo. Here are some of my reasons why I decided on a 993.

Design: I think the 911 is a timeless design which most people would recognize once they see it. No modern sports car is as curvacious as a 911 IMO. The 993 interior may be old school compared to a 997 but I grew up with 60s muscle cars and Grand Nationals which I adore.
Performance: Like any 911, incredible handling and involving due to weight distribution. A 993 may have less than 300hp (non turbo) but that's more than enough power that I'll need.
Reliability: From what I've read, these engines are built very well. There may be a few quirks here and there but if I can find a well maintained car, repairs can be kept to a minimum. Afterall, we're talking about 12+ year old cars.
Affordable: From what I've found, well kept 993s can be purchased without breaking the bank and the fact that being able to do some of the maintanence yourself makes it even easier on the wallet.

Let me know what made you choose a 993 over another car.
Thanks for reading

The 993 is a true automotive icon. Timeless design combined with superb engineering. It is a very special car, indeed, that can, if so desired, be used as a daily driver. (Try doing that with a Ferrari or even a vintage muscle car.)

I've been looking around to get myself 993 CS or carrera, ultimately looking for RWD (2WD) version since I have Cayenne for the 4WD needs.

It's very hard to find a good used one though, still searching for the right one

I check Park Place in Bellevue once a week just to see the new inventory that comes in. Quite a few base Carrera and 4s models show up from time to time but I havent seen a CS yet. If they do, Im sure they wont be around long. Good luck on your search.

For those of you that owns or driven a base 993/993 4 and a CS/4S, are there any noticable difference in handling, braking and power? I dont plan to track the car. Just spirited driving on a nice empty country road. Im sure weight and traction comes into play.

Great choice, man, that's pretty much what I've honed in on. Your rationale is very well stated too, and pretty much matches my own.

Enjoy the process.
