sanity check on repair work prices

Just wanted to get some feedback on some pricing quoted by my mechanic.
  • CV boot replacement - $670 motor out, $780 motor in
  • Spark plug wires and plugs with dropping motor $2500
  • Case bolt replacement (motor out) $3300
  • Heads redone, guides, etc. $1500
  • Clean cam towers $500

Are these reasonable fees? The total is looking like around $8500. My car is a 1996 C2 993.

Thoughts?

engine out is very easy for 911. it's designed that way.

I appreciate your feedback.

Valve cover gaskets are leaking oil like a sieve. The hydraulic valve lifters are making a racket at idle. CV boots are shredded. Spark plug wire insulation has been dissolved by all the oil dripping from the valve covers. Mechanic says the case bolts are also leaking oil and need to be resealed. Air injectors might be clogged --> Getting O2 sensor warning.

I think I'll talk to another two shops. Any other thoughts on these repairs would be greatly appreciated.

sounds ridiculous to me.... I'd be tempted to fly my butt to texas and do it for half that lol. Seems to me that they are overlapping labor charges on you... once the motor is out of the car, the time to do plugs and wires is negligable, and I'd imagine that any honest shop wouldn't even charge you labor to do them if they were removing the heads for a rebuild/refresh

I'd run/drive away from that shop as quickly as possible and never look back!!!

Airbrush,

Thanks a lot for the feedback. I'm going to talk to some other shops.
