Greetings- New Owner of 993 C4 Cab
Greetings- New Owner of 993 C4 Cab
Well, I never considered myself a Porsche guy- since I resumed driving after a 20 year hiatus (no, not prison, but living in NYC, I had no need to drive or own a car), I have basically been a Ferrari guy. (Six of 'em). Yeah, I had a fling with a 996 GT2, to which I added GT3 seats, rollbar, 5 point harnesses, aftermarket exhaust and a few other baubles- I never really got to track the car, it made a hell of a commuter, though, and even the most aggressive NJ drivers could not cut me off. I kept the GT2 for a couple years, and swung into a 6.0 Diablo.
Yeah, big ride, real exotic, fun at speed, a drag in stop and go traffic and makes most of the production Ferraris seem tame by comparision. But, if you've ever driven one of these things, you know it ain't tossable. So, I've been thinking about a small, tossable sportscar for a while.
Over the weekend, I took delivery of a 96 C4 cab with 20k miles, black over tan, car is basically stock and in sound mechanical and cosmetic condition. I am going to replace the convertible top, which is frayed, add some 18" wheels (the 2002 Carrera wheel) and fresh rubber, keeping the original 17" wheels for snow tires. I'll probably add HID lights. Will post pics soon. I had Rick De Man, whose shop is a few miles away in Nyack, take the car to give it a Post Purchase go-over and install the wheels, and top. I am really looking forward to driving this thing.
What a delight the cockpit is. Old school. Looks and feels like a European car, with instruments, dash shape and fittings like the cars I remember from the 60's. The new cars just seem so sterile and plastic inside.
So, I'm pretty excited about this car.
