this is for Darren and Red Devil
this is a new thread only because I want EVERYONE to read this on the forum.
first the minor point to Red Devil- being that you use your Durango as your everyday/winter car and You chose to purchase a automatic seems to add support to my getting an automatic as my 4x4. the added options in my rubicon incl. tru-lock differential and 4x4 axle option make the need for a manual less .
now my main point. Darren when I was 29 years old (almost 15 years ago) i already had 2 porsches. Since then i have had six more. sure when I was 29 my priorities were different than today. it was great to take my porsche out east to my hampton house or have the freedom of spontaneity to pick up and leave. when you mature along in life you have a different list of priorities. children getting close to college educations and sleep away camp/extracurricular activities take precedent.
wanting your family car-where you spend most of the time driving also ,imo, comes first. now don't get me wrong-god bless to all those who have plenty of f-ck you money and can afford three or four cars and take their car cover off of their tt in the garage for a leisurely drive and put 1000 miles a year on the car is fine. but if one can't do that , then he must look at what is just plain right.
I use my tt as a daily driving car everyday during the normal business week. this includes my driving 1.5 miles to my dental office, parking the car at 8 a.m. and driving home at 5 p.m. and usually staying home with my children before they go to sleep. That includes 4-5 days a week.onthe weekends I spend the majority of the time with my family, driving the family car. O h yeah, my wife and I usually like driving into Manhattan for dinner or partying but I would never bring my car into the city.so bottom line, now if I look at the entire equation I believe having the porsche is not very feasible-if expenses are an issue. my days of feeling good driving a porsche have been saturated over the last fifteen years and have been replaced with other things.
Granted, I do not track my car like many of you do. I think that is great and a valid reason to make the tt a top priority. For those who don't, i guess putting on the mods , watching your boost gauge hit 1.0, and meeting at the detailer on your afternoon off is enough. All those hours I spend washing the car more than driving it, those 2-3 times a year turbo meets, and the poorly organized-last minute cancelled Hampton get togethers I will certainly miss but driving an all year round vehicle like my 4x4 and flipping the money from my tt into paying off my first mortgage sounds more intelligent to me.
Darren, give yourself fifteen years and a few more Porsches and you'll see what I'm talking about. btw, I was offered 93 k for my car yesterday.

Bill, you can't be serious about selling your car and I hope you know I was pulling your chain about the Rubicon, automatic and the wife. If it wasn't evident, re-read my post on the other thread. Anyway, ring me today and let me know what is really up with the Porsche.
Jim, of course I knew you were kidding about the Rubicon- I actually enjoyed it. As far as the Porsche goes- I am seriously considering selling it at summer's end. If i get rid of it, I'll be upset- but some good has certainly come out of it in establishing a sound friendship with a great guy such as yourself. call you later...
