Porsche Dealership 911 turbo purchase
Porsche Dealership 911 turbo purchase
My father found a car at a local Porsche Dealership who is selling a 911 turbo for a local customer (similar to a consignment store..where the dealership is not the owner and just a middle-man to handle the details). We made an offer and they accepted, but when I asked them to check the amount of type 1 and type 2 overrevs, they said they could not until we actually purchased the car. Does that sound right?

sounds strange..all they have to do is plug in the computer..and charge you .5 for it or whatever they usually do.
worst case, if you really want the car, you can get a scanner for like 100 bucks that can check that for you. still...what reason did they give for not checking it for you?

That sounds wrong....it can affect the warranty and your ability to purchase an extended warranty (or PPO). I would be very uncomfortable with a dealership that will not check the condition of a car they are going to sell to me. Get a PPI from another dealership or walk; IMHO.
I worked at a couple Porsche dealers a number of years ago and I can tell you many dealers are not on the up and up. Once your name is on the dotted line, they are out of your control. I would not buy from this dealer. Please disclose their name so the rest of us can be forewarned.

This is absolutely a red flag.
At this point, if you proceed, assume that you are buying from an unknown source- ANYTHING must be independently verfied. You should not rely on any information that is not in writing, and signed. (Of course they won't do it, but my point is they are trying to scam you.)
There is no reason that a dealer, being paid a commission, would not take 10 minuted to download the DME.
Pass, until they give you a written DME dump with a time stamp and technicians signature

There are plenty of these cars around so don't be attached to this one. Look somewhere else. I wouldn't take my car for service there either. If they try to hide this from you they will try to hide service related problems from you also.
I can hook my laptop up to the ODB2 port and tell you if it has any type 2 overrevs in a matter of seconds. Why can't they? Either the car's fine and the saleshole you're dealing with is too crooked to think straight for even a moment, or they're hiding something.
