WOW- The crazy Canadian runs 10.8 @133+ mph.
Joe/Kevin,
Do you think that speed shifting could produce a time like this with full weight and 600HP? I have been told that the famed Bobby achieved a 10.3 with a proto 700 kit utilizing speed shifting...

No doubt the shifting sounds pretty good but it wouldn't have too much of a difference on the mph as it would on the E.T. even so the mph and E.T. are consistent with each other.......now if he ran that 10.8 @125 or ran fast 60-130 you could tell me the shifting had alot to do with it but the mph is hp or weight.
The E.T. yes .....not the mph......no doubt the 10.30 could be done with a 700 kit but at what mph and weight?
I dont think a 5 bar can handle 600 rwhp. .
We just had another K24/18g go out and run 128s- thats not that far off.
Speed shifting, in my opinion, will yield higher traps... the boost stays on between shifts. I think his 3 to 4 mph above whats "normal" is due to his speed shifting along with the shortshifting like he was instructed to do. The 40 something Degree Temp helped as well. He kept his gas pedal to the floor thruout the entire run without letting off between shifts... I doubt Marty, JOHN D, etc. did that....
Either way he did it... I was shocked myself.
An interesting point, I recall JOe renntekV12, who purchased a GT2 a year ago with the k24/18g, 5 bar, greddy, straight pipes( I believe), etc... from Chicago( Bajo's GT2). Well he not only dynoed it but also took it to the track... granted it was proabbly a lot hotter... but the car barely made 520 rwhp and ran 12.2s or something liek that... and that was in a GT2. I asked him he said it was on race gas and on high boost.
SO I take the low and the high and come up with a fair 560 rwhp... I think thats fair.

I really think the MPH argument is not fair unless both cars are at the same track same day. different driver, track, temps(10 degree difference), setup( straight pipes vs exhaust) etc...( blown six Ics vs. stock) all contribute to different results. Yes they both ran the same basic turbo kit but D Dmaffo had headers and Blown6 ICs.... also ran a good amount of C16.
AS far as shortshift on the K24/18g goes... He shifted 6200 1st and second and 6000 rpms in third. he said that contributed to his success after trying different shift points as well. I can only make this arguement on this particluar set up... For some reason these turbos like it. I dont know I never had it.. Im only sharing the info that was passed on to me. Seems to have done the job though.

Holy crow..... full fledge battle royale!!!
Let me see if I can add some info to make this better for everyone.
I made 20 passes that day exactly I have all the time slips and know what I did and why on most..... so Ill try to answer some of the ?'s in the air..... ok fellas..!!
1- cars weight seems to be a biggie!!
NO PASSENGER SIDE SEAT!!!
carpets behind the rear seats(that are present) are gone with the foam they have attactched.
No rear spoiler motor or rear wiper...took em out.. mine stopped working since I added a rear wing to car so... might as well take it out...didnt work anyhow....
took out my monster box along amp and wires for that crap...so... NO SOUND system anymore! except for porsche's fine unit....lol.
no spare tire or tools i bring with me or even the tire inflator( all are out ) trunk is completely empty.
ADD ME in the equation coz I seem to be a little heavier than most....
next
2- shifting....lol... and speed et and mph...
I tried shifting at redline on a couple of passes and all rest same and got a best of 11.03, the problem with redline is that it bounces off rev limiter and that crap slows yu down.
then I tried shifting like most ppl do.... that gave me a 11.533 @ 129.66 2.019 60 ft, that was letting go of gas for a fraction of a second while engaging the clutch... normal fast driving... NO bangin!! 11.53 GUYS!!!!!!!!!
here are the goodies!!!
TODD ( PROTOMOTIVE ) ECU
k24/18g with wastegates from TODD(whatever he uses)
greddy profec
5 bar
ceramic UGHHHHHH clutch I bought from Dan at Vivid (ask him what I have) I really dont remember anything other than him saying its not a friendly clutch for street driving.. He continued to add NOT MANY PPL LIKE EM..... so I found out the hard way !!
hense my 60 foot times being avg or kind crap compared to what I KNOW I can really do.. Id love to see anyone do better.... trust me its freaking hard!!
B6 intercoolers nice !!
AEM AFR gauge, markski suggested..I got!!! DAMN HAPPY I listened!! its my fine tuning tool!!!
maxspeed headers and exhaust I bought from ebay !!! yes EBAY....lol... its not a fancy BB one...or a fabspeed or whatever... maxspeed lol.... I removed the 100 cell cats and kept the mufflurs and headers....!!!!
short throw shifter...... no need to explain !!
silicone hoses ( waste of cash!!! big time!) and one stock hose on bottom driver side, my fancy silicone one got torn to bits on a high speed run....long story guys.....lol... NO ONE HERE would believe that story....trust me... lol... remember that mr DJ.... lol...
drop in filter....and I bought the car with the box cut along the top side of it so its opened all on top...
and i think thats it!! everything else is pretty much insignificant... i did put HEAVIER than stock sway bars and end (drop) links and coilovers... etc etc... body kit blah blah blah... WHICH ACTUALLY IS HEAVIER THAN stock...hmmm i gotta get this thing weighed... lol....its all balanced I think....
anyhow and I do run 19's meant for a C2
235 in front and 275 in rear... let me say it again 275 !!! no typo!! its a heavy one piece knock off rim and only 10" rear !!! so...
falken 452s on about 22 psi at track i let out air....
if i had a better 305-315 tire I would do a better 60 on same set up... I know it...
and lets now talk about that 60 foot... I busted an axel lauching this car hard and learnt to respect my axels.... therefore I DONT LAUNCH hard.... the same MPH pretty much and 1/8th times and MPHs..i saw a video of an evoms car run a 10.33... with a 1.3 i think if memory serves me right..... its what I used to look at before i did anything to my car.... so.... all I have to do is get a 1.3 and I am @ 10.30's .... i figure....

gas gas gas....FUEL..>!!!!
I ran something from a drum from a buddies buddy.... so what I really got who knows...but it smelt good! ITs a torco 118 turbo fuel.... which I mixed 2.5 gallons(10 litres right?) into my half tank.... so 1/2 tank sunoco 94....and 10 litres of that 118 stuff.... reason i did this is that I wanted to high boost program the car on way to track.... I didnt want to waste time getting into high boost at track.... I wanted to DRIVE..... and tweek the high boost if anything.... AND IT WORKED LIKE A CHARM>..!!! NO way im going to track W/O doing this again!!!
The car IVE put 100% ms109 and others..pro fuel ...sunoco 104 etc etc..and doesnt seem to like that!!! it gives me attitude... it likes the mixing....lol... obviously diff qnty on diff gas mixtures.....but im getting the hang of my cars appetite.... lol...as funny as that may sound...
When I am blasting down track im looking at boost controller to see if im spiking boost or dropping or maintaning boost.....and at same time looking at my AFR's making sure IM NOT in the 13's ...or at least not for long..... and then watching my shift points to maintain accuracy... oh...and the track to make sure im going straight!!! SO...anyone that says its easy doign what I do...(we) do..... can kiss my butt! NO WAY its easy.... Im watchin and tweek on next run .... and so on and on.... so I DO SQUEEZE everything out of that car!!!

And now a question about the speedshifting...are you even tapping the clutch AT ALL or just slamming the shifter at 6500? I used to do that in a rear-drive car, but havent had the guts to do it in my AWD S4. Thnx
thank you ... thank you...
for the pkg brand i dont think its the 650... markski would know better or even Todd.... I know its called the K24/18g set up but I have stock fuel system so... I doubt its the 650...???
and for the shifting.....hard to explain... its like the car is asking for me to engage it.... hmmm ... its like it gets to that point and whamo..
NO i dont LET OFF the GAS AT ALL >>>> EVER..... (except AFR TOO HIGH or I mis-shift, at which point you feel it before it even happens.... lol...how do i explain that...help)
and as for the clutch.. its that ceramic spec thing that tend to engage very high....ONE bonus....so... I tend to "slap" it.. on angle from top... so it engages for that fraction of a second that i need for my shift... IT TAKES really good coordination coz you can quickly bounce the rev limiter or blow things up if you mess up!! so ... be careful..... and yeah... scary at first....but... I drive the car around and got aquainted and then she opened up to some fun... its almsot as if the car tells you when... cant explain it....

Todd at Protomotive never named any of his kits. I believe some of us
just took after Divexxtremes lead and have named them.
One of the keys to his success is that he understands his car, boost, afr's, and has
practiced, and worked at it to come to his high level of "success"
DMaffo has the minimum "kit" that you can do from Protomotive,
like he said, he does not have the upgraded fuel system, hard piping, etc that goes
with the more advanced kits.
Nice job again, to the "crazy canadian" (There is something about those Canadians!!???)

John, speed shifting will help the ET but not so much , if at all, with trap speed. Do the math...3 shifts in a run, and "bobby" is shifting around .2tenths if I recall. I know Joetwint was shifting .3tenths on his runs with no powershifting so you have a .3 sec difference in ET overall. As for Bobby running 10.3, I think he is not a good example for the average person to look towards. He is running HUGE boost (1.7+)on those runs according to Mark. Most people arent willing to do that to their motor. Can it be done? No doubt... The only thing I do not understand, and I am not questioning the time in anyway since it was run and taped, is why is this car running much faster than a setup like yours that is more comprehensive and more money....a 100 hp difference is significant and the trapd should be significantly different as well. Anyway, killer time!
I have wondered this same thing about speed shifting (I have never done it in my
car, I probably will never know). If he gained .3 seconds from speed shifting vs good
shifting, he also must gain a little from staying on the boost that would be over and above the time saved in the actual shift. Maybe thru great driving, proper shift points,
speed shifting, complete understanding of the car and it's tuning would net a .5
(one half of a second) better E.T. than the average driver. Also, for some reason some
cars are faster (with or without mods) than most of their counterparts. I remember
Todd Z telling me that DMKaboom's beautiful white GT700 was faster than all the others
for no apparent reason (then addtional tweaking was done to it). S-351's GT2 is also
like that; the car just flat out flies, and has beaten many cars that it "shouldnt".
I agree that DMaffo's car may be stonger than most and he had all factors going for him
(weather, good driving, car running perfect, etc). I do not know the weight of the car but he weighs 60 lbs more than Joetwint or myself!!, So taking out the passenger seat makes it about the same as me with both seats in).
Interesting discussion...
Cheers to all! More good times to come from all tuners.

car, I probably will never know).

Bobby ran a 10.4 with a full blown k24/18g set up on 17s with MTs and RWD... I believe that was in the 136s...I can get the slip ..... I agree with KPG that his car and style of driving is NOT representative of an average proto kit user.
That is why I never chose to disclose this info.
Someone asked... if this is a 650 kit.... honestly, I never knew one even existed. This kit is based off of a k24/18g turbo, stock fuel system with a 5 bar FPR... the rest is up to you. You like headers, after market intakes, hoses, etc.... it's your call.
