What is the best way to remove cosmoline from engine?

What is the best way to remove cosmoline from engine?

I'm installing a new exhaust and other goodies...Whats the best way to remove cosmoline (or whatever that is) off my engine and transmission. Whats that disorder called when everthing has to be clean and perfect?

Yep, I have that too..but my girl has it twice as bad as me.

I use Cosmoline remover....lol ...gasoline works too, but be careful not to blow the place up!

Brake cleaner, assorted stainless tooth brush, gloves, big drip pan, elbow grease, good ventilation, handful or aspirin.

3M adhesive remover works well too. But you will take several years off your life doing this. The fumes are painful. You could also try a professional high pressure steamer with some degreaser first. This might buy back a few hours of your life.

acetone will be your best bet with the help of some toothbrushes/etc etc. It evaporates fairly quickly, but has enough solvent action to break down the cosmoline. Plus its readily available at your hardware store.

Ok, I'm doing it this weekend and I'll update on the progress and what worked...I'm hoping on not blowing myself up or setting my car on fire...
