any MDs onboard?
That generalization is wrong. One NEEDS an incentive for someone to go into medicine and endure many years of sleep deprivation, poor conditions, blood, guts, anquish, etc. You also want SMART folks doing this -- you need an incentive.
My brother-in-law trained in NY and Ohio - he incurred $235,000 in debt --
he went to school/training for 12 years -- so his opportunity cost was the $235,000 plus, say 6 years of wages at a moderately good job (he is brilliant) at $100,000k a year average (way too low, but to make the point) so he down $835,000
He makes $120,000 a year now -- average that down and over the course of 25 years its like making $95,000 per year Gross/ 60,000 net. That is SQUAT.
Don't you think a guy who saves your life, your parent's lives, and your kids' lives should make enough to buy a nice house, a nice car and raise 2 or 3 kids. Well HE CANNOT
Big Payoff -- who are you kidding -- give the guy an opportunity to make $250K a year -- that what 3rd year lawyers make in large law firms. Let him relax in a nice home, car and take his family on nice vacations.
The money is NOT the reason to go into medicine, but the fact that there is REWARD makes the decision bearable for the very talented --

If it wasn't for Doctors, how could plantiff attorney's get so rich??? Sad but true. Tort reform coupled with a qualified judicial/medical review board to scrutinize the merits of a case prior to giving it the go ahead to go to trial is the only way health care costs will go down...let alone continue to attract people to pursue medical careers or even stay in them if they are currently practicing...If your a Doctor, I sure hope you vote Republican...The Democrats are swimming in the American Bar Association's money contributions...And we all know the bar is against reform...

The only point I was trying to make was people shouldn't go into medicine if all they want is money.

I think too many people went into medicine for the money..when I grew up it was considered a "vocation" not a method of getting rich, though by relative standards Doctors lived pretty well, even if they got paid with chickens, eggs and milk or just enormous respect for being a partner in the "healing" process.
Today medicine seems to be more about "procedure" than "healing" and that is a great problem for the profession, and a severe disappointment for the people who chased it for the money..maybe they weren't so smart afterall.
No doubt, the problem has been exacerbated by 1) the weakness of the AMA, 2) the greed of the Trial lawyers and 3) the strength of the Insurance Companies; and in States like California it is almost impossible for a young Doctor to make a "satisfactory living"
You in the Medical Profession have no negotiating power because you can't really refuse to treat anyone..that "Oath" gets in the way.
If the AMA had been more proactive and far- sighted then maybe a disaster chould have been avoided.
Use your skills and wits (and Lawyers) to declare Insurance Company executives, trial lawyers and their families as non-persons, then refuse to treat them... and things will right themselves in a hurry.
It takes more than "smarts" to be a doctor it takes endless selfishness and compassion, and some in the profession (without the vocation) might have made better Insurance Company executives and Trial lawyers.
I applaud all you selfless individuals, and may your God bless you!

I am not a "Dr" yet, but am in the process of becoming a dentist. I have seen the life of both a MD (my mom) and a DDS (my dad). My parents have lots of friends who are doctors and dentists. So I have seen how MDs get paid. I agree that for all the work they put in to it, they are underpaid. People can pay a lawyer $400 to go fight a speeding ticket, but the doctor can only make $40 to see a patient to make sure they don't have a life threatening illness (no offense to any lawyers)?
I think cnc is right, the AMA has a low membership rate. The ADA has over a 80% membership of the dentists in the US. I think this has helped the field of dentistry to avoid the pitfalls of what the MDs are going through.
I applaud all those that go into healthcare (at least we will always have jobs!).

A lot of my problem comes from badly broken people who would be "totaled" if they were a car, who expect to be better yesturday, have no insurance and don't expect to pay anything, are sent to me from the ER, I am required by law to treat them, the law will not help pay for them, they are usually noncompliant and frequently less than pleasant. In order to care for them, I not only supply my expertise at no charge, I cannot deduct these "write offs" from my income tax and I have to pay for this patient's care by supplying the office overhead at no charge to them.
Another thing that puzzles me is this: if my overhead expenses continue to rise exponentially, and the entire source of this rise is governmental regulation, why doesn't the government allow increases in fees to offset the overhead, not to mention the cost of living increases that any other business is allowed to incorporate in the final cost of production? If the cost of doing business continues to rise and the government knows this but forbids allowing an increase in charges, where is the money supposed to come from? Eventually the margin will be zero and I suspect it is already past zero for medicaid and that is why doctors that have the ability to choose their patients and not cover the ER, choose against medicaid. Furthermore, the price structure for medicare is not much different. IF all patients were medicaid and medicare, every medical and surgical office in the country would be immediately bankrupt and unable to meet basic overhead expenses.... Except offices that are allowed to set their price, like plastic and reconstructive surgical offices because it is an antegrade process rendered in an elective, nonemergency way. (The product wasn't already delivered at the hospital at 0300 am two days before the patient comes to the office.)

Doctors, would you like some whine with your cheese?
Get out there and break your *** to get new customers/sick people. We all paid our dues one way or another, through education or business.

It is far better to be silent and thought a fool than to speak (or in your case, post) and remove all doubt.
A paraphrase of a saying I thought appropriate for you.
For those interested, Steve c already has developed quite a reputation on other boards including nsxprime and s2ki.com for being opinionated, uninformed and unable to see or value anyone's opinion but his own. His latest comments are further these beliefs. No one or nothing is of any value unless steve c says so. You had better not disagree with him or he'll post incessantly with inane comments and obscure references to support his biased and self-serving ideas.

You are posting on a public board. If you are not ready to read and respond to other folks opinions -- why post in the first place? I am a bit amazed at the lack of maturity displayed by many of my fellow 996 Turbo owners in this thread -- I guess I would have expected more from folks smart enough to afford such cars.
Right or wrong -- when you take the low road into personal attacks you have taken the wrong path.
