After speaking and/or e-mailing with Proto, UMW, Vivid, FVD and Upsolute, I chose EPL (not on the list) and am VERY happy with my decision. Why?
1. I got a full custom dyno tune for less money than everyone on that list is charging (except for upsolute).
2. It performs flawlessly. Top notch work without the Porsche Tax.
3. I can get some of my investment back when I'm done with it. EPL will switch my flash into any other car for an hour of labor (Ask the other tuners about that one -- all told me that I was SOL if I ever wanted to re-sell the tune).
4. Unlimited upgrade possibilities. No matter what hardware I add to my car (exhaust, injectors, new turbos, different MAF solution) EPL can re-tune it to dial it in and all it will cost me is an hour or two of dyno time. Also, many of the other tuners told me that they would only upgrade the tune if I bought their hardware. With EPL, I can buy from whatever I want from whomever I want and get a tune perfectly tailored to match.
5. Most importantly, I've never spoken with anyone in the tuner market who understood Bosch Motronic as well as Tony does. He lives this stuff.

Seal, sounds like very good reasoning to me. Seems like EPL has a lot to offer.

What do they do for non locals?

I'd PM/e-mail/call for specifics, but I know there are a few options:
1. They can send you an off the shelf program (tweaked for whatever hardware you have).
2. They can remote custom tune through one of their affiliate shops.
3. Tony goes on "tuning tours" around the country every now and again.

No, Revo is Revo Techink. I like the product and my car performs well with the flash. I run 1.0 bar with is not as agressive as some ofthe other programs (1.2 to 1.4 bar). I believe that all of the flash programs are good.

I have been on the fence and finally went with UMW. Why?
1. custom tune to fit my specific car at my specific altitude..
2. I can switch from a 91 octane tune to a 100 octane tune to a valet tune in seconds.
3. No one knows german turbos better. Kevin actually builds turbos and engines.
4. new GT2 compressors with zero clearence, need I say more.

brain police is infamous around these parts
I installed REVO Technik with their SPS3. This allows for full adjustment of the car. The user manual is easy to understand and I won't need to upgrade software as the mods continue. I added BDVs when I added the REVO. I got 90hp gain and 127ft/lb gain on dyno. What I liked most about the set up was that it did not change the every-day driveability of the car. The car is more responsive to throttle inputs, as the HP and torque gains are in the middle of the tach range, but the gains are most pronounced under heavy acceleration. The stock peak HP is near redline, whereas mine is at 3800rpm. Musante Motorsports in CT did the install, dyno and showed me how to use the SPS3. I've been very please so far, and recommend REVO to anyone interested in an ECU upgrade.

upsolute, now softronic/Vivid

I have a 2002 X-50 which had already been flashed by Upsolute when I purchased. It was already a pretty fast car--but of course I wanted faster.

Added the Vivid Garrett turbo 650 HP kit and the Softronic's ECU flash was suggested as a superior product. With further modification the car now has somewhere between 675 and 700 HP (needs to get on dyno again) My Turbo has a lot of modifications beyond the flash--so nothing against Upsolute. I just really like what I now have going on with Softronic.

Thumbnails of car below since lowered with JIC Comps., upgraded brakes to OEM GT2/GT3 fronts and new sway bars.
