Well, then you haven't been paying attention. It's happened numerous times over the last year. They're just as guilty as the rest of us.

Right or wrong, the fact is that there are a lot of very loyal guys on this forum and on Rennlist that take any negative comments towards their tuner personally. Admittedly, I'm guilty of doing the same thing a few times myself

Heck, some two-faced owners even go so far as to talk badly about, or attempt to undermine the performance results of cars owned by guys that use the same tuner as they do...if they think the other guy might have a faster car than them, or one that has less "issues".

But, as a community of modified Porsche owners, I think it behooves all of us to try and do better. We should support any and all differences and/or progress that's made on these cars, regardless of which tuner has accomplished it (US tuners, that is. Not a fan of the euro tuners )

Anyway, I'm honestly excited about the prospect of the UMW cars being completed. A LOT of time, effort and money on Kevin's part has gone into these builds (not forgetting the money and patience required from Kevin and Tom)...and I think the results will be outstanding. I wish them the best of luck and look forward to reading about, and hopefully someday seeing first hand, the results.

Now that all the nut swinging is over Jean, Woodster & Scott thanks for your support & Good luck wishes..it's always welcomed. We hope to have these cars running to their full potential by the spring ( I hope). We all have our tuners & diff ways of doing things (which is great) we all learn from each other, bring it to a new level which we can ALL benefit as 6speedsters Mark, Scott, Craig, Joe started this, we will continue & the rest can keep the progress going...KPG & I are patiently waiting to break these bad boy's in & have some fun...Thanks Again

Tom

Agreed.

However, this exact type of thing has been done by others on this forum in the very recent past. The poster created a thread under the guise of an honest question, but the thread had other, very obvious motives in mind.

In that case as well....a phone call could have been placed, a PM could have been sent...but instead, a clearly passive-aggessive thread was created for the sole purpose of simultaneously attacking 3 seperate vendors on this forum.

This type of thing is becoming more and more common on this forum.

Scott,

I respectfully disagree with your comparison between the two threads. In the case of the prior thread, one of the tuners at issue made a public representation about its product on this forum for the purpose of promoting its product and, upon further inquiry, that representation turned out to be false (or, at best, disingenuous). IMHO, false statements made publicly by vendors in order to sell their products are indisputably an appropriate subject for public discourse. Had that issue been addressed through private communications, the 6Speed community would not have discovered the inaccurate nature of the prior representation. The 6Speed community clearly has a right to know the truth regarding promotional claims made publicly by vendors, and the only way to achieve that goal is through public discussion (as opposed to private communications).

I do not want to rekindle the prior thread and, therefore, I will not expand any further. However, I most certainly disagree with your assertion that the prior issue – potentially false claims by forum vendors – should be limited to private communications.

Moving on to a more important subject, aren't you returning to the States soon? I am looking forward to hearing about the evolution of your car while you were away.

Regards,

Craig

Hey guys ............. I just want to go on record that Kevin is not only up front but very generous with proprietary information. I can't begin to tell you the info he has shared with me.

I still can remember the time sharkster brought him over to my house and we talked 996tt builds for hours into the evening over some wine. Kevin and KPG are some of a few people that I gave my cam design and blueprint numbers to. Todd Knighten is another. And I have shared several things with sharkster. Do you think I'm afraid they are going to use them against me. Maybe they will, but I'll get to see the improved version if they do. Whatever time Kevin takes ......... he takes and I wish him the best. This is what the old 6speed was like.

Of course, if he builds a faster motor he'll force me into doing another tear down.

Craig,

I must respectfully disagree. And because this argument is completely subjective…I doubt we'll come to an agreement on it. But, for the sake of clarity, my opinion on the matter is this:

There was no reason at all for you to create that thread. It was premature, and possibly harmful...and from the overtly negative response that you received after making it, by other members creating a similar thread with the sole intent of mocking the original (I’m not condoning their actions, by the way)…I assumed the fact that it never should have been created in the first place was obvious.

IMO, you could have and should have exhausted all other means of communication before creating it. A simple phone call, email, or PM would have been a much better way to find out what you were looking for.

Heck, I took all of 30 seconds to send Todd K. a (private) two-line email about it, and he promptly responded with all of the answers that you were looking for in your (very-public) multiple-paragraph thread.

That said, I think you should think twice about coming down on Marty for creating this thread, when (whether you choose to admit it or not) you did essentially the same thing a couple of weeks ago.

I think all of us (including myself) really need to take a round-turn on all of the back-stabbing, paranoid, sharp-shooting, passive-aggressive behavior that's been shadowing this forum as of late. I personally believe we should all try to rise above that sort of immature crap.

Moving on to a more important subject, aren't you returning to the States soon? I am looking forward to hearing about the evolution of your car while you were away.

I should be coming home in 2-3 weeks. I'll be in the US until I deploy again this coming November.

Wrt my car; all upgraded hardware has been installed, so it's just waiting for its turn on the dyno for tuning. I hope I'll have some new numbers for you all next week.

Thank you for asking.

Fully agree.

Be safe.

Aside:
One day I might do a 1000hp build. I do have the potential to do so...these threads and such have really turned me off to the whole tuner thing, to be honest. Just remember how lucky you all are to have the car(s), volunteer at a soup kitchen if you don't, or come work on a pediatric cancer ward if simple poverty doesn't move you, and if that doesn't work, just don't say anything mean if you cannot help yourself. I sent two kids home on hospice this week. I fire up 6so as an escape only to see this bs. Pathetic.

This goes for subtle and overt negative feedback. This might as well be a bunch of spoiled little rich kids...just with more years and therefore more dollars.

How much horsepower you have in your car has nothing to do with how good or important a person you are. It is about as important as which brand of toothpaste you use to be honest or underwear you use.

Come on guys. This whole community is very fringe in terms of actual relavence to the the world at large. I am staying off of here for a bit. This thread has just gotten me very tired of 6so.

Please be nice or just don't say anything. Even Dr. Jitsu can listen to that, despite its author having "wimpy" k16's. Pathetic. Flame away.

JB

Cool What did I really mean ???

Two good posts above!

I agree that there are some on this board that take a position that everything they say
is "gospel" because they have somehow earned it thru having a high horsepower car.
(Often times one will gain much "forced learning" thru a big build but it does not give
you a right to call people out and accuse someone of having a non-sincere interest in mind). The problem with saying things like:

"Lets be honest folks... why is this thread even here? Do we even think that Marty was actually interested in our build, and if so why not just a PM,email or a phone call...he has mine. This was public for a reason, and thats fine with me...but lets not kid ourselves about the motives"

Yes, I am interested in the build and so are many others regardless which tuner or
tuners I talk to. Hell, I have stated several times if I was on the West Coast I would
probably be going to Sharkey or UMW for my needs, but I am in nowhereland...and I like alot of people, started small with a tuner (Protomotive) on a previous car (993TT) and
have continued to be a loyal supporter because they have exceeded my needs. This does not say that others couldnt also. OK?

Reread, my very first post again, I have never edited it and see what I wanted to learn.
Some apparently are suffering my daughter's reading problems: reader comprehension.

Woodtster,

I didn't say anything derogatory or question you your intent as having known you for awhile I felt I knew better. I hope you realize that. I did add what good I know about Kevin.

If a tuner or engine builder doesn't have difficulities, then they are not pushing the envelope. I believe most people choose a tuner or engine builder based on their location. The closer the better for the client.

People do need to know ahead of time if they are buying a tried and true package or if they are pushing the envelope (more torque/hp without proven reliability). This way they know what to expect. My adventure with KA has incorporated information from alot of tuners/builders that so many seem to believe each individually are "the greatest." Kinda reminds me of people and their favorite NFL/NBA or NHL team.

I believe what everyone needs to concentrate on is individuals who report their own bad experiences with a particular company.
