Resonance - good or bad?
Resonance - good or bad?
This morning I was driving and looked down and saw that I had missed three phone calls - and my ringer is LOUD. And it hit me - I LOVE the resonance. I don't want to talk to anyone when I'm on the road. My car is my fortress of solitude. For that matter, you could pull my stereo out, because I don't really want to listen to music. I want to listen to the car.
When I was a kid we used clothes pins (a lot of you won't know what those are because all you've ever used is a dryer) to put playing cards on the spokes of our bikes to make noise. I'd put a card on every spoke. It was a b*tch to get going, but MAN when I got it rolling it would roar.
Just my small thought for the day. Anyone else like the resonance?

I like some. Funny story. One of the few times my wife and I made it out on a weekend without the boys we took my car. I noticed I was in that band that I like. I asked her if that was bothering her. Her response was it is a Porsche, it needs to sound like this. It wasn't right with the stock exhaust. I like it like this. Keep in mind that I have come from the nasty 930s, 965s, 993TT with bypass pipes, so if this is anything it is quiet. I also had a twin turbo 79 making Gobs of power with straight 4 inch dumps off the turbos. Nothing was in the way it was all pipe. NOW that is noise.

If by resonance you mean that awful buzzing in my ears at around 2800 RPMS, I hate it. Rest of the range sounds great, but the buzzing gives me a headache and I always try staying out of that RPM range because of it. It is especially embarrasing when a passenger is in the car.
Resonance
Resonance is very difficult to define or describe, at least for me. I am trying to determine which after market exhaust system I will put on my tt cab and have reviewed Stephen's fine analysis and some of the videos - but I sure would like to hear some of these in person. A local dealer told me he will not install a Fabspeed loud unless you listen to it first.
I also got a kick out of the comment about not being able to hear your phone ring over the engine sounds. My original Mini Cooper S (set up for hill climb racing) was stripped of all insulation and much of everything else not required and had an Abarth exhaust system. To say you couldn't hear yourself think would be an understatement, but the sound was pleasant and between most people not believing such a small box could accelerate and corner so fast and the growl from the exhaust, that was fun.
