Carbon Bonnet (Trunk lid)

Might purchase one

Has anyone drilled for the badge/emblem, is this advised? I know they do stick on badge/emblem but I love my Silver one!

also Paint or keep Carbon look?

Steve, Is this the 993 version bonnet (with the indent)? I would probably clear coat it...now about the badge...not sure what happens when you drill the CF. I would at least make sure you adhere some backing material first. Good luck.

cheers

I just purchased one and left it. I think it looks much more cleaner with an emblem.

Hey Steven, please keep in mind that installing a carbon hood will upset the aerodynamics and handling of the car unless you also replace the boot lid with a matching carbon piece. Be careful.

LOL, when am I gonna see this car of yours! You ready for Oulton Park on the 9th?

Hey, thanks for the replies

wross996tt: It's a 996 version, not the indent like the Gemballa one, I'm actually not to keen on that lid (just personal taste)

robin20mrv: It's more the after effects of drilling the carbon, will it continue to splinter etc, etc, but that's a great little tip for when it comes to drilling, we need to hook up some time my friend!

dgreen78: Don shoot me a couple of pics, think you already have my email.

Jimmer23: Hey, love the comment, lol. Should be no problems for Oulton, car is still away, but I have just been so, so busy myself with moving my business into new premises, I finally splashed the cash and bought our own premises which is great but it is taking up a shed load of time at the moment. Andy has been doing some fantastic stuff with the car, tell you all about it later mate.

kilrgt: thanks for comment, I will wait to see Don's lid and see if it looks best Carbon or just Black.

Techart Wheels and Gemballa rear lid gone now!

I should have advertised the Gemballa lid on here, some of the guys here scream out for them, it was sold for £500 ($1000) probably could have got a good bit more but someone who would fall in love with it. Don't get me wrong, I didn't want a load of cash for it but there could have been a happy comprimise.

In my days as a CF guy on bikes and such, introducing a stress point is always a bad idea. I would leave my hood alone if CF.

Now if you have accidents, keep in mind that it may not crunch line the alu hood and not go into the drivers compartment....it may explode, splinter, or even try to cut your head off. Just a few random images.... Car companies design their cars to be crashed and not kill you. Do the CF people crash the hoods? If so, please share that fact. I am not aware of such data.

I think some upgrades are best left to show cars......if you do it, be careful!
