Love the outside...the leather in the back has been a bit neglected which makes me wonder about other out-of-the-way leather...and the obvious rust underneath should have been attended to prior to the photo shoot. Recent paint on the air intake...possibly signs of some coverup ?? I'd be primarily looking for rust....but I love the exterior and the duck tail is one of my favorites. When was it painted?

I don't know this car in particular, but I did make a few observations.

#1 - This car has been repainted
#2 - The headlight trim on a '74 should be polished stainless not body color.
#3 - The seats have been recovered, or at the very least they have had the inserts replaced.
#4 - The door panels have been recovered in a non-stock and non-matching "Levant" grain material.
#5 - The car appears to have a few popular options missing, ie: A/C, 7" and 8" wheels (it has standard 6"/7" combo), sunroof
#6 - '74 Carrera's had a decal that said Carrera on the deck lid and not an emblem.
#7 - The front valance is supposed to have a Black rubber airdam attached at the bottom.
#8 - Dash pad looks like it was recovered in the same material as the door panels.
#9 - The Antenna is on the wrong side. '74 Carrera's had the antenna on the drivers side, so I would question if there hasn't been signuificant body damage and replacement in the past.

Also, I'm not sure if Porsche did this 100% of the time, but my dad's car has a Green engine fan shroud not silver like the one on this car in the pictures.

Not that any of that should keep you from buying it or admiring it, just my observations. It looks like a REAL NICE '74, and I like the fact that it does not have a sunroof. Are you buying it or considering it? How much are they asking?

I'm somewhat partial to the '74 Carerra since my dad bought his new in '74 and gave me a lifetime appreciation for Porsches. He still owns it and drives it almost everyday. Here are some current pictures of it, still has all the original paint, no rust, no body damage and over 110,000 miles on the odo!!!

Where are you seeing rust other than the exhaust? I missed it.

I was referring to the exhaust....but my point is that the rust should have been attended to prior to taking pictures....it doesn't do well to show any rust that can be cleaned up. I would also wonder about other rust since the seller didn't seem to put much credence on presenting it well....so my thoughts were....is there rust elsewhere?

Bodybag has some very viable observations...and they're coming from someone intimately familiar with the particular year and model. This is not to say that it might not be a fun car, just that there are some obvious coverups....which makes me wonder about the care and feeding of the car as it "matured".
