Stripped lug bolt hole, Thought's
 

I have a stripped lugbolt and the hole was stripped as well (wasnt me).

Do I have to replace the whole hub? The Holes look like they are removable from the hub.

Anyone?

Hub is one piece, and it's a ***** to replace. Do the wheel bearing while you are in there as you will most likely trash it when you take it apart. (press+heat)

I think I would try a "time-sert" thread repair or a helicoil, you have nothing to lose, if it takes the correct torque and is still Ok on retorque you should be OK. If it spins/breaks you do the hub anyway...

Where is the thing you mention, where can I get it?

Derboost, I could kiss you man! (no not really) Time Sert is perfect, since there is only one bolt, and there are several of their dealers in the immediate area. So I can have this fixed in no time.


The dealer was already well into the thousands to replace the hub and everything else.

glad I could help, :D I have used time serts in stripped head bolt holes in rare blocks, (ie 427 ford etc) and they have never failed. they also make them in stainless steel for h2o pumps etc. Just make damn sure you don't get it in on a angle,then you have a real problem.... I would make a block out of steel, maybe 2 inches thick with the pilot hole size drilled in it then clamp this block to the hub and drill through the block hole to insure that you are parallel to the original hole as you drill it. Oh and red locktite that ***** in place when installing.

My $.02 but time-serts need to be installed correctly or else they won't handle the load as designed. I would suggest a good machine shop/race shop install them if you're not comfortable doing them.

Time for studs. Next excuse I have to tinker I'm doing it.

I ended up not even having to use the time sert. They used some kind of tool and made a new thread. Looks and torqs like new.

HAHAHAHA I've seen that before. If that happens to me, there will be a RIP thread for me because I would have been going a lot faster.

I actually dont know who stripped it, all I know is that I didnt, there can be several varmits who coulda done it. No biggie.


Performance Imports fixed it, I was going there because they are a time-sert dealer but turned out they are a performance shop.
