3-2 downshift problem

Twice now when I downshift from 3 to 2 I get a grinding noise as though the clutch was not depressed. I always heel - toe and have never had a problem. Today, after the first bad shift, I tried very deliberately pressing the clutch and shifting to second and got the same grinding for the next two 3-2 shifts. The problem then went away and it was back to shifting normally.

This is the third time in a month that this has happened. I've also noticed that my shifter feels a bit sloppy as well. Could this be a shifter problem?

Shifter is stock.

Any ideas?

Staff@RPM is infamous around these parts
Hi rwilliamtaylor, First check the cable ends at the tranny make sure they are in the brackets with the clips on. Then check the shifter by pulling up the boot and looking at the white plastic bushing that the shifter pivot on. If the both look the same and the shifter body does not move back and forth ( stays tight going from 3to 4 and pull up and down) Then you have a much deeper problem. But a couple of really hard shifts it to second will brake the rear bushing. This is also how you wreck 2nd gear ,may be to late for the doggs
