Hey everyone!! My name is Antonio, I just moved to NYC from AZ where I went to school. I finally have a real job and can afford one of these great cars but had some questions about them. First off working on cars is nothing new to me. IN college I built an 800rwhp 300zx of my own and various big hp supras. I used to work at a fab shop called Full-Race and we did some pretty crazy things over there. Anyway back on topic my questions is what kind of maintenances do you guys suggest when I buy one? What are common problems with them? What kind of power can I achieve on the stock turbos? What installs or maintenance requires the motor being dropped? And most importantly on my hunt for a great 996 turbo is what are some things I should look for when buying one? I am starting to do research into them, I just am not to familiar with them as I have never worked on one. Thanks for any info-Antonio

Welcome Antonio. Please do lots of research before you purchase one and mod it. I was helped out by some great guys on this site. The known problems are with a second gear pop out issue on some cars. I have a Tip. so I don't know to much about it. There is plenty of info on this site. As far a power goes the stock K16's should get you in the 400-450 AWHP range I think. The K24's on the X50 cars will get you closer to the 500 AWHP range with supporting mods. I have the K24 18g hybrids and with supporting ECU, exhaust, 12 Psi WG's, filter, Greddy boost controller I should be in the 530-560 AWHP range. With this I am maxed until a new fuel system is installed. All my work has been done without dropping the engine and all but the turbo swaps by myself and my son. Oh..... and get your credit card ready. Good luck in your quest to find a TT.
