Engine Rebuild?
Hummmm, to say this is interesting...! Gents, I had no idea the tts could be spun so high! I realize you are discussing serious mods to accommidate this. I didn't expect there would be much need/desire to go so high with a puffer anyway. I have experience building nice old 930s and you don't see much of this on the street. I know I started something discussing the Type 1 and 2s and then I read.... this. :->
SO, is anyone willing to speculate how much a stock 996tt engine is .... actually... long term durable and safe to rev without internal mods [I suspect that without some porting and perhaps different cams/exhaust this may be pointless anyway.] Very interesting stuff here. Thanks. MORE!

Guys,
I tried my search a bit different and came up with lots.
The closest is [but there are questions being asked and not answered...soooo?]
https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...light=high+rev
and this link has more:

There is no defined agreement. After reading all of these I conclude that a stock engine is good for 7,000 and anything higher is asking for reliability problems BUT if you don't mind taking chances you may get away with as much as 7,500.... for a while. I think 7k must be the magic spot but that will require a software change as your stock rev limiter should kick in at 6750rpm.
That's all I can figure out at this point.

I doubt a dealer will be willing to warranty apr head studs when they let go ....
rebuilding the motor to stock specs is one thing.. but doing aftermarket stuff for 1.58 bars is another....

There is a fellow board members car that revs to 8K on a stock crank @ 1.5 bar and is tracked weekly with no problems.
Two comments I must make. My brother has been an independent Porsche tech for a good 20 years now [prior to that he was a multi rated aircraft tech]. I can guarantee you that you cannot get a quality rebuild on one of these engines for under $12k MINIMUM! Absolute. Anything else is deciding where to cut corners. Once you start "building" these, it is a matter of stupendous $$$ or being extremely lucky finding some deals on parts. Count on it being stupendous.
As far as spinning stock internals I do not doubt what is being said but the real question is how long will it last? When it does ..go... count on it being incredibly expensive. [Sigh, I know too much about both of the above from personal experience. The only way around spending the big bucks is running it for a short period and dumping it before it blows and letting the next guy suffer the consequences.]
