How good is PSM?

Is PSM like basic traction control or something more sophisticated? Is it any better than the BMW DSC? Compared to stability control programs on other cars, does it give you a little more leeway before cutting in?

PSM is much better and less restrictive and impeding than DSC. But like any form of control system, it has it's limits, and will aggravate you at some point on the track. But on the street it's awesome, saved my butt driving a few miles home from Road Atlanta in a downpour on Hoosier R6's. It's amazing how I could just keep driving and the computer kept the car on the road for me even while I was hydroplaning in the standing water.

But even still I wont be doing that again.

PSM on drivers ed days

I have had an M3 and my 03TT on local tracks both with the stability management systems. The PSM is superior to the BMW system, allows more freedom yet is there when you need it. I don't race so others that do may have different thoughts on it. But for my days at the track I would not turn it.

I was impressed with ability of the PSM to keep me from loosing it a couple of times while on the track. It certainly allowed me to learn the line on the track before turning it off.
