BMC Air Filter: Worth it?
BMC Air Filter: Worth it?
For those who have changed their air filter, has it made a big difference? Im thinking about changing my stock air filter but i know that on some cars, it will throw off the MAF sensors. Has anyone had that problem after installing theirs?
Also, who has the best prices for the BMC air filter?
Thanks!

Hi Aero, they don't make a "BIG" difference, far from it. The air flow is better over the paper stuff and I've heard dyons for 3-5hp. It's worth changing if you have a good few miles on your stock one. It doesn't throw of the MAF sensors unless you "reuse" the same one and "clean" it by over oiling it.
Drop me a PM, I got my K&N for really cheap...

The idea that Porsche engineering would leave any horsepower
untapped by something as cheap as an air filter is unlikely in the
extreme. Unless your car is sucking in much more air than a
stock motor, the standard filter will be fine. *If* a filter gave
2-3 hp, no one could feel it.

Hi Joe, I agree with you.. But start taking apart the car and you'll find some seriously shoddy stuff for a $120k car. The Bosch BOVs are plain crap, the suspension is shoddy. Mine was shot at 11k and I've seen so many other guys stock suspension once it's taken off- there's no rebound... The rear drop links (and fronts) have crappy rubber ball joints that fail. The throttle body is from a boxster (robbing us of power no doubt) and it tiny, I could go on and on. The more we all dig the more stuff we find lol...
Hi Alex, yep. I don't have much stock in my suspension or
diverter valves either... I have less doubt that Porsche might
cut corners when it's expensive.... The rubber stuff is a
compromise for those who want a $120k car to be quiet. Road
noise is a big issue for most. The con-rods are OK for stock
power, but apparently the motor could be fine for *much* more
internally if it had better rods. etc. Ther diameter of the throttle
body also has some tradeoffs. If a throttle body is bigger, it
may flow better at WOT, but may not provide the velocity of
air at low power throttle settings to give smooth response.
