sooty substance in rear wheel well?

After a glorious 500 miles Saturday of heavy boosting and great TX hill country roads, I arrived home to find an oily , sooty substance in the drivers rear wheel well , as well as some of it splattered on the inner fender lip. Oil level checks out good, no signs of any leakage of fluids. Could this be from a leak in any of the plumbing from the turbos or the intercooler? The car ran flawless all day. Washed and cleaned it all off today and drove it for a bit. All seems fine and no evidence of this soot reapeared?? Any one have a thought on this. I am just hoping it was something I ran over, but at the same time, worried that it is a leak from something??
Thanks in advance.

Good thought, but the substance was only on the drivers side wheel well. I had not used any tire cleaner, or preservative for weeks prior to this.

Paulie,

Last time this happened to me (at Texas World Speedway; you were there),
The smoking gunk in my wheel wells was about $2,000 worth of Michelin Pilot Sport Cups and the actual plastic fender liner material.
