Anyone know of significant differences between....
an original engine and a replacement ?
FYI just took my '03 TT in for its first 12 month services at 7,000 miles and was told the engine needs to be replaced due to a porous casting / fracture causing an oil leak. Not the dreaded RMS.
I'd like to think that the replacement engine would be somehow better (more torque, bhp smoother) - but I suspect I'm living in a dream world unless someone has hard data.
Interestingly this is my 3rd new Porsche in 5 years and sadly both previous cars (986 and 996 cab) also suffered major problems. The 986 blew it's engine apart at 6000 miles while the 996 had a porous transmission.
Until this incident with the TT I thought I'd gotten a good one...

I'd say you're cursed by the Porsche gods. Really sorry to hear your problems. Seems like the odds would be on your side to get a good replacement engine, but it kind of blows having to get a new/rebuilt engine in a car with so few miles. See if they will give you an X50. Never hurts to ask.
