Has anyone mounted winter tires on stock turbo twist wheels?

Damon -is a 295 winter tire a bad idea? I saw you guys sell them but I have also heard that for winter it is best to go with narrower tires. What do you think?

My 2c....the diameters of the tires need to be close so as not to mess up the awd....so if you run the 295...check the spec and select the front that is closest.....I think if Pirellis WS240's it was the 235.

Just my 2c....

I agree with damon but 265/35 will work with 11" wheel. Not the optimum solution but with stock wheels it is manageable.

In addition, I think the stock wheels made by BBS are a lot more quality and are a better choice even with too narrow tires than some heavy replicas in 10" width which usually come with a very incorrect offset.

If you guys have 10" wheels for 265/35 snows feel free to give us the specs, it would be the ultimate 996TT winter setup!
...But I suppose the manufacturer you will recommend is not one of the highest quality OR the offset is not low enough to simulate the stock wheels without some spacers...Hope you are able to correct me because I have not followed the market recently.

The offset should be 32mm with those 10" rears...(Or a bit less if the car is lowered in my opinion)

But 275 snows would be an incorrect choice on 11" wheels due to wrong overall diameter. That is a clear problem with the 996TT, better to keep the diameters the same both front and rear...

I bought after market wheels and 240 winter sports in the size Porsche specifies. Needed spacers on the rears to make it look right (fit without them). This set up looked "normal", not too narrow. Handled snow up to 4-5 inches without any problems...was very quiet...and what really surprised me was how "stuck" to the road they were in cold and/or wet conditions. They really handled beautifully...only slightly less aggressive turn in...but well worth the compromise for the safety in poor weather. I think it is rather silly to worry about the width of the tire from an appearance stand point...but I would welcome the 240 winter sport in the correct size for the 11inch wheel.

Anyone have advice on the actual "wheels" to use if not OEM....spacers likely in the back too, of course. Damian has shared some data with me and Moda's with spacers were just over 1000 dollars. I am hoping for a bit lower...used 996 wheels, etc.....

think cheap....but safe.

TIA

get them on ebay, they sell the CORRECT offsets without spacers

if you guys are looking for the ultimate setup, go with what porsche recommends:

here are two pages from a PDF file I have from porsche about snow tires, i run a similar setup myself and it works very well

whoever wants a copy of the PDF file, drop me and email and i'll send you the PDF. jason.h.lu@gmail.com
