Clutch Actuator
Clutch Accumulator - Air in system???
I have read all the posts about this, but none of them seem to have the problem I am experiencing.
1. Car started having heavy clutch pedal in a morning, especially after having new Sachs heavy duty pressure plate.
2. Fluid leaking out of top of reservoir at front of car (under the hood behind the firewall)
3. Once car started and pedal pumped a few times, pedal is as normal.
This lead to replacement of the Accumulator - Replacement part now has a 997 part number rather than a 996 (presume this is an upgraded part)
After fitting new accumulator and rubber "o" ring, the pedal is light to start with, but after 5 or 6 pumps of the clutch pedal, it gets stiff and the pedal slowly moves down (Bit like when bleeding brakes and there is pressure, until you loosen the nipple and let a bit of air/fluid out)
I have checked all the fluid levels front and rear, and have turned the steering back and forth, but with no improvement.
If I go to the car the next day, the pedal is light for about 15 consecutive presses, but then if I stop the engine and pump the pedal to empty the Actuator, it is then light for only 4 presses once the car is started again.
After changing the Accumulator, I didn't have to add any Pentosin fluid - which I thought strange....
Does anyone have any idea of the problem?? is there some air trapped in there???

I changed my accumulator today, didn't have to add much fluid either.
After installation I pumped the pedal 10 times, started the car and repeated the pumping; my clutch is now very light (I hope it stays that way). I understand there's some kind of check valve in the power steering pump that goes bad, I'm not sure if it gives the symptoms you describe. Any associated noises or vibrations?
What year is your car?
