Are minor/major Maintenance Schedules necessary for mod cars?

For those that have their 996TT semi-extensively mod and know zippo about working on cars (like me), do you keep up your maintenance schedules with dealers? I found that many maintenance items are no longer applied and you don't even want them to touch them. If you DIY, what are you doing on the side to keep your P in good shape?
