Used TT with a new engine?
I just saw the TT I'm thinking about buying, and when I got to the dealership the engine was missing from the car
should I be concerned? when kind of problem causes the TT to need a replacement engine? TIA
P.S. The guy didnt know about it and was told not to show it but he didnt know it was missing the most inportant part of the car. It is getting a brand new engine though

With a new motor, I'd be more interested than if it were
original with 21,000 miles, but I'd play the sale as if it
was 'damaged goods', 'non-matching numbers' etc.
If a motor or tranny has an internal problem to be fixed under
warranty, it is often cheaper to replace the whole unit. They
send the broken one back to Germany for disassembly and
scavenging/rebuilding.

What year is the TT? If it was an 01 or 02 you're in better shape actually because the new Engine will carry its own new 2-year warranty from Porsche -- even if the original car's warranty runs out.
Think of it as a cup car that needed a new engine b/c of wear or time on the track. . . that would be a plus that it got a new one. As for what went wrong with the original, there could be plenty of things that are better swapped out than fixed, especially when you consider there are so few Master mech's that really feel comfortable diong this and the time in hour$ it takes to accomplish making the dx and getting the new parts and then reassembling. Good luck and GO FOR IT.
I'd go for it and definitely use this as a negotiating point. "Damaged goods" is a great way of putting it. Just be prepared to walk if they don't come to play ball.
