I am seeing abourt getting a pair of walkie talkies.
I am going down and back the same day, although I will be spending the later afternoon evening with a friend / buss associate (928 owner).
Alex, I think that since Ventura is on 101, that just staying on 101 will be faster. I think it would take an extra 1 to 1.5 hours to cut back over from 5 to 101.

I too am coming back the same day. I wanna get home so I can relax before Monday, and of course watch some Football ;-)
And EM996, you shouldn't go or not go based on your front lip. You got the car, so use it ;-) If it breaks it breaks, don't stress over it. I used to be like that but now I simply want to do what is most practical. My $.02 ;-) so hope you can make it. Call me as well.

Hey Doug.. Hmm I think you may be right on there... Well it's only a less boring drive then. The 5 just goes on.. and on.. and on in a straight line.
Fred don't tell me you are a Raiders fan. You're too bling for that- must be a Niner fan hehe. Being ghetto I am obviously a Raider-fan...

Just who the hell in in charge anyway ;)
Per Mapquest:
- Gilroy to Ventura (via 101) is 5 hours 27 minutes, 286.2 miles. (I figure really about 4 hours.)
- Gilroy to Ventura via 152 to 5 and then cut back via 126 is 6 hours 16 minutes and 329.8 miles. (I figure really about 4 hours - unless 126 get backed up - and I hear that it often does.)
- Obviously the “travel time” will vary, but the mileage counts. It may be a wash time wise, since the limit on 5 is 70 compared to the 65 on 101. Seems just wrong to cut over and then back again, but what do I know
I guess I don't really care, other than since Robert and I are tentatively planning on waiting for the pack in Aromas (on 101) just south of Gilroy, we would appreciate knowing if the pack was going around us so we don't seem toooo silly waiting all day
I suppose this ties into an earlier question - is the plan to just jet straight to Ventura, non-stop? Or if a break midway for coffee / chat, etc. was anticipated, San Luis Obispo or Pismo Beach might be a bit nicer than the Shell station snack bar at the intersection of 5 and nowhere.

I had a pretty hectic day today but the line "Shell station snack bar at the intersection of 5 and nowhere" just cracked me up. Thanks for the laugh.
I do agree we need someone to set a game plan so we are all on the same page.
I also agree that going via 101 would be a more direct route. Plus you don't want to have to deal with all the 18 wheelers driving like hell down 5 just to get tomates down to LA before they ripen on the truck.
