recommend some performance parts!

I just got my 2001 Turbo

I put 500miles on it, and im super pleased!

I want to do a few performance mods, and I figured I would ask what you guys think my best bet is.

I love the nice quiet exhaust. Call me crazy!

I want a nice air intake system! In the $300-600 range.. Best bang for the buck..

I Also want to reflash the ECU, or get a programmer. What is the best price for one of these, and who is the guy to see? Night and day differance?

Thanks in advance!

Couple pics of me rollin..

Switzer has a exhaust + headers special on their website right now for $4995.oo that is a seriously good deal.

Kevin at UMW did my flash and I and many others are very happy. Do your homework when buying an air intake system because some of them will blow your MAF and that's a $250 part.

If you like it quiet, keep your stock exhaust.

Intake doesn't do much at lower hp, keep the money for something else at first.

The mods that I felt most noticeable were the ECU flash and suspensions (coilovers + swaybars). One gives you power and the other keeps it save and more fun to drive.

Depends how much you want to spend. Europipe is the nicest quiet system bar none. (www.europipe.be) But also the most expensive.

A more cost effective quite option is doing a custom stock exhaust. You have one of two options...and both will retain a relatively quiet note.

-Cut out holes in the stock exhaust or...
-Remove the stock baffling and replace the stock cats with a nice high flow 100 or 200 cell cat.

Best bang for your buck intake is going to be Agency Power's.

http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/a...5-p-45355.html

ECU, again it all depends on how much you want to spend and how much long term hp you want...

Prices go from $700 with Upsolute to $2000+ with GIAC, Softronic, UMW, etc... The latter 3 come with a programmer. And yes with any of these reflashes you see a night and day difference. Somewhere close to 90bhp with an intake, exhaust and ECU.

dont bother with headers unless your pushing above 600 whp and then your best bet is taking your stock manifold and porting and polishing it.

for ecu i wouldnt go with upsolute go with a good tuner like proto or UMW,

then get you self an exuast look on here for a used one save your self alot of money,

then get your self some DVs, ill have a set of baileys ill be getting rid on about 3 weeks as im going with tials if u want ill sell you those cheap. but they are a great uprgade.

then drop in BMC filter ... save yoru self alot of money to be sued on other things.

aftr theat you go onto turbos with wastage actuators. trust me i was where you were .

Diverter Valves
ECU Flash
Cut Aribox

Take out weight.

The 996 TT is pretty reliable up to 600 hp.

With an exhaust Upsolute will give you the 80-100hp you're looking for. Dont forget to do DV's as well.

For an Upsolute tune, call Gene at Jasper Motorwerks (see sponsor --->)

If you're looking for a cheaper quieter exhaust call Dan at Vivid racing about his Agency Power exhaust. Ask about buying his intake as well.

I did europipe stage 2 quiet. Seemed to boost sooner, not too loud but big reduction in back pressure. Check their site, they have sound files and tables that list relative DBs inside and outside at different rpms; and back pressure of different options. Very well made product. Then I waited a year before my ecu flash. Yes it is "put a smile on your face" noticeable. I have X50 option and GIAC asks for an additional $1000 for the tune. I just couldn't justify that so after a lot of research I choose UMW. I like that I can reflash with a hand held "tuner", Kevin is accessable. There are lots of happy UMW customers on this board. And lots of very loyal customers of other tuners also. But get a flash. Also as good as the stock suspension is, I would give up my other mods before my pss10 coilovers. Consider doing that first, and don't do the lowering springs only. This is worth the $3500 or so installed price (install and alignment, pss10 $2500). Car looks better, handles better, and has a more "real world comfortable" ride (and it is adjustable height and speed of rebound). I still need to install my DVs. My two cents

Do DV's generally go bad? Is this a must? So far Kevin at UMW seems like a great guy to go with!

they tend to leak and when u flash and up boost there more prone to do so , kind a of a precautionary thing.
