Upgrades and reflashes...
This may be well understood throughout the forum by now, but we want to make sure that all of our customers know, that they maintain their reflash and upgrade options regardless of which dealer they purchased their GIAC software from. If you need a reflash or simple upgrade to a latest version, our dealers may charge a labor fee for the time to flash, but the flash is free from us.
If you need a reflash or an upgrade to a latest version and need help finding a current GIAC distributor that is local to you, please contact us at sales@giacusa.com or 949-724-0014.

Does this "labor fee" upgrade policy apply if the current car owner is not the original purchaser of the flash? Let's say I buy a car that has already had a GIAC flash and now I want to upgrade to the latest version. Do I pay full price or "labor fee" only?
How do other flash providers deal with this issue?

Great question. We just charge by the VIN. Which means that if your VIN is in our system from a previous owner and it was never refunded, then a reflash is available to you, free of a charge from us.
Good policy and attaching the flash to the VIN is logical. I wonder how many other tuners treat upgrades this way.
The car I recently bought had already been flashed by another supplier. It runs good but there have been a few upgrades since it was done. Unfortunately, the flash is attached to the original purchaser. To get an upgrade, I must have the original purchaser request the upgrade, pay, and ship the unit to the company. Logistically it's a pain to do it this way and a hassel for the original purchaser but seems the only way to get it done.
