Anyone running or had experience with the Kuhmo Ecsta SPT's? They are similar in price to the Sumi's but I don't see much talk of them here.

I have them, they are fine (yes, i know they are a compromise tire). they seem to be comparable to the Sumo's.

I went sumi because the tread pattern is "un noise" if you will. I have had them now for 2k miles. Same thoughts as above....seem to feel just like a PS2 to me. Better by far than conti sc2. Way better than Pirelli assymetricos...

Cannot beat the price. Since I am not into the time of my driving at DE, they will likely be all I need for a long time.

great thread and thanks for all the info from everyone...The sumis look great...

I have some 2 cents as well(that's about what it's worth):

I have the original conti's and that is about the only good thing, which is that they last long. They are the absolute worst handling tire I have ever had on a good handling car. They are noisy, harsh, make the car skip and track badly...Never, Ever again will I own a conti. I had bridgestone pole on my other porsche and they were ok.

I bought a set of INVO's for my other porsche and once their on I will see how good they are.

I also have a set of PS2 ribs that will go on the 996tt after I finish frying the conti's at the 1/4 mile raceway.

But these summi's and the Nitto INVO's appear to be great deals.

Now if someone only made a set of really nice forged 1 piece wheels at the 2k pricepoint

Any updates on how they have worked for you?

6k miles. Four HPDE days. No issues. And, I still have 65% or so of the rears and 90% of the fronts. I did not chunk on the track, but I did not let them get too hot either... I am actually thining of getting an aftermarket tire pressure gadget to let me watch this in real time....about 300$ from the TireRack.....just to put the icing on the cake.

I am guessing 25k on the fronts and 15k on the rears, with DE work. Amazing. I am "low" on the DE totem pole and I manage the tires on track as if I have to work a lot to pay for them (because I do...).

For this economic climate, these are the perfect tire.

I have toyed with getting R comps for DE days. I'm not there yet, and these are cheap insurance on errors/temp issues/ and rain. I'd say they are 95% of the PS2 for 50% of the price.

I plan to buy them again.

I too am interested in the "noise factor". Users please advise, especially after 3-500 mile wear-in.

Not bad at all at 5000 miles. But, I run a switzer exhaust....and I like to drive at PCA DE days. Let's say this, I can hear the radio just fine. Couldn't on pirelli oems that came with the car.....they were horribly noisy. I suspect PS2 are more quiet by a hair. But I did not buy the TT to be quiet, so I am highly biased.

To be clinical about it, they are better than the conti sport contact 2's before, way better than the pirelli's, and probably just under the ps2's. I'm buying more when the time comes unless something better comes out or the ps2 is 40% less expensive than it is now.

Jeff

(I like them a lot...and I am very particular with my tires....up to White at a PCA DE day I think they'd make most people more than happy in any service save snow/cold...I use snow tires (Pirelli 240's) for that.)

I've had my Sumitomos for about 3000 miles now with no problems Road noise is not noticeable at all. I've driven through quite a few torrential downpours and am always amazed at how well-planted the car feels--no grip issues at all They're nice looking tires and the price is All in all, a great daily-drive tire IMHO.

I have 25 days of autox, and 13K miles on the SPT's, and the fronts are on the wear bars and the rears are almost there. Anyone have direct experience running the SPT's and the Sumo III's?

PS2's are overrated, I am glad someone took them off my hands quickly. Never again will I spend that kind of money on those tires for anything but my Euro car.

Would you consider that excessive wear on the SPTs?

I agree, I have the ps2 ribs and their ok, but nothing special. They are better than Conti, who makes the worst tires in every category of wheeled vehicle.

would you? wear is the least of my concerns. I'd like something stickier and would like to know if the Sumi's are from someone who's run both.
